Chapter 257
Even so, Aurora merely raised an eyebrow without saying a word. A part of her still had doubtsโwere these two putting on a show for her? But she didnโt call them out. She simply sat there, watching them trade words, silent and unreadable.
Lucas glanced at her expression, that slight, amused curve of her lips, and suddenly felt unsure of himself.
Even Wendy was thrown off. What was wrong with her today? Why wasnโt she reacting? She had been blatantly provoking her, and yet Aurora remained calm as ever.
But Aurora acted like none of it mattered, quietly enjoying the mille-feuille pancake in front of her.
Wendy asked hesitantly, โAurora, youโre not saying anythingโฆ does that mean you agree with me?โ
Lucas shot her a warning look. Heโd finally seen through Wendy latelyโhow restless sheโd become. He had already warned her once, and yet she clearly hadnโt learned her lesson.
Nervously, he turned back to Aurora, afraid she might be upset by Wendyโs words. โRora, Wendy just talks without thinking. She didnโt mean anything by it, donโtโฆโ
โOf course Iโm not upset,โ Aurora replied with a bright, easy smile. โWhy would I take offense? Youโre the one who asked me to come back.โ
Then she looked at Wendy, her eyes laced with disdain. โYou said a lot just now. But this pancake? The first bite was mine. And your Lukey? He made it for me. Youโre just an afterthought.โ
With that, Aurora leisurely popped the final bite into her mouth. Every move she made was graceful and effortlessโso poised it was almost mesmerizing.
Wendy trembled with anger, speechless with frustration.
No matter what she wanted to say, she couldnโt deny the truth in Auroraโs words. All of itโevery last detailโwas indeed prepared for Aurora, even the very first bite.
The thought left Wendy feeling uneasy, especially when she met Auroraโs gazeโher confidence instantly wavered.
Seeing Wendy speechless, Aurora simply smiled and said nothing more. After all, sheโd already made her point. There was no need to say anything else.
Lucas glanced at Aurora, and deep down, he couldnโt help but agree with her.
But she rose from her seat without a word, not caring what either of them felt, and calmly made her way back to the bedroom.
The sharp bang of the door closing snapped Wendy out of her daze. What had just happened? How had she let that woman silence her so completely? Her mind had gone blank, every retort sheโd prepared vanishing the moment she faced Aurora head-on.
Now all she felt was frustration and a bitter sting of regret.
Lucas ignored her entirely as he got up to clear the table.
That only made Wendy more upset. โShe ate the most, didnโt she? So why is it you whoโs cleaning up, Lukey? She just waltzed into the room like a queen and dumped everything on you!โ
But Lucas defended Aurora without hesitation. โI did it because I wanted to. And one more thing. If you keep provoking her, Iโll call your brother to take you home.โ
โWhat?!โ Wendy screeched, outraged. โSheโs the one who was out of line, so why are you taking her side?โ
Lucasโ eyes narrowed, his voice turning cold. โIf youโre not happy, pack your things and leave. No oneโs stopping you.โ
