“…it’s nothing, really. I just thought, since you came back so suddenly, maybe you’d want some of your favorite home-cooked dishes?”

Aurora stayed calm. “Mom, I’m tired. Let’s talk tomorrow.”

But seeing her daughter like this only deepened Grace’s worry.

“Why don’t you talk to me for a bit, just in case?”

She stepped into the room before Aurora could stop her, determined to get some answers.

Aurora saw right through it. She knew her mother meant well, so she didn’t push her out.

Grace studied her daughter’s calm expression, unsure how to begin. In the end, it was Aurora who broke the silence.

“Mom, it’s because Lucas has been away on a business trip. I’ve just been feeling uneasy staying there alone.”

Grace blinked, surprised by the explanation. Realizing she’d overthought it, she let out an awkward cough, fist lightly covering her mouth. “I see. Well, that’s understandable. You two are married now–you need to support each other. Try not to overthink things.”
