Chapter 99
Absolutely shameless.
But Anastasia nodded calmly. “Yes, SC is my mentor. When I studied in Paris, I had the privilege of learning jewelry design under her guidance. So yes, I’m familiar with all the elements you mentioned.”
Sonia was stunned. She’d never expected Anastasia to have such impressive credentials. No wonder her designs were so exceptional; she’d been trained by one of the industry’s legends.
She’s really SC’s protégé?
Sonia’s expression became complicated. How is that even possible?
The connection had been pure chance. During Anastasia’s study abroad program, her excellent grades had earned her an advanced training opportunity. One day, she’d helped an elderly woman who’d turned out to be Sylvie Corvalle, the internationally renowned designer.
They’d hit it off immediately. When Sylvie learned Anastasia studied jewelry design, she’d offered guidance. Recognizing Anastasia’s natural talent and quick learning, Sylvie had been impressed.
Anastasia hadn’t known Sylvie’s reputation initially—Sylvie kept a low profile, rarely appearing in magazines. Anastasia had simply been kind to her.
After observing Anastasia’s character and exceptional design ability, Sylvie had formally taken her as an apprentice.
When Anastasia’s program ended, she’d returned home to be with her grandmother. Sylvie had continued traveling the world, seeking inspiration. They stayed in touch regularly, discussing design trends and techniques.
Anastasia had originally planned to invite Sylvie to her wedding, but hadn’t expected the groom to change.
She’d kept her connection to Sylvie private, not wanting to trade on her mentor’s reputation. She preferred clients to appreciate her work purely on its merits, not because of her famous teacher.
She’d never told anyone about the relationship—until today, when someone recognized those subtle signature elements.
Sonia stared at Anastasia intently, searching for any hint of deception, but found only calm confidence.
“You’re…really SC’s student?” Sonia’s voice still carried disbelief.
Anastasia nodded firmly. “Yes, Miss Vinci. If you need confirmation, I can contact my mentor right now. She’s currently traveling in Switzerland and would be happy to verify our relationship.”
Sonia was speechless, her emotions churning. She’d expected to easily find flaws in Anastasia’s work, to tear down her confidence. Instead, she’d been completely outmaneuvered.
Sylvie Corvalle’s name carried enormous weight in jewelry design—her student would naturally be exceptional too. Anastasia was more than qualified for this commission.
Sonia felt frustration building with no outlet.
Damn it!
