Chapter 192

Anastasia arrived at the nearby hospital just as Valeria was being wheeled into the ER.

“Doctor! Where’s the doctor?!”

Cassian was carrying Anastasia and radiating this don’t-fuck-with-me energy that had everyone steering clear – nobody dared get close.

“Mr. Rhodes, this lady is…?”

“Get me your best orthopedic surgeon right now!”

“Yes sir!”

Dr. Cullen, the most experienced department head, came rushing over, out of breath. Seeing Cassian still holding Anastasia while she buried her face in his chest from embarrassment, his heart sank. Oh shit, this is bad!

Dr. Cullen assumed Anastasia’s condition must be critical – if he couldn’t fix her, he was screwed!

“Mr… Mr. Rhodes, could you please put the patient down so I can examine her?” Dr. Cullen asked carefully.

Only then did Cassian gently set Anastasia down like she was made of the most precious crystal.

“Be careful with her. Don’t hurt her,” Cassian warned.

Dr. Cullen responded nervously, “Of course.”

After examining Anastasia thoroughly, Dr. Cullen only found the cuts on her arm and thigh. I checked everything so carefully – seems pretty minor. Am I missing something? Is my medical training not good enough?

Anastasia blushed and said awkwardly, “Doctor, I’m really fine. He’s just being a little… overdramatic. He cares about me a lot and worries too much.”

Finally, Dr. Cullen got it – Cassian was totally overreacting. Of course, being smart, he knew better than to call Cassian out on it.

“Let me clean and dress those wounds for you.”

“Sounds good.”

After treating her injuries, Cassian picked Anastasia up again to carry her out. Feeling the stares from doctors and nurses, Anastasia was getting embarrassed.

She tugged at Cassian’s sleeve and whispered, “Put me down already.”

When she spoke near his ear, her warm breath against his skin was like striking a match – it set him on fire. He clenched his legs together and set her down on a hallway chair. “I need to hit the restroom real quick.”

Anastasia just said “okay” and watched him walk away.

That’s when she heard hurried footsteps approaching. She instinctively looked over and saw Jasper with his mother, Megan.

When Jasper spotted Anastasia, he froze mid-step. The moment Megan saw Anastasia, her eyes went dark with fury. She charged over, her voice going shrill: “Anastasia! I knew you were behind what happened to Valeria! If anything happens to that baby, I swear I’ll make you pay!”
