Listen to this chapter:

Denne looked at the woman across the table, whose sincere expression masked her deceit. He let out a cold chuckle. “Ms. Gildon, you’d be wasting your talent if you didn’t go into acting.”

Vespera’s face flushed. Under the bright, incandescent light, which highlighted even the slightest hairs on her face, everything was laid bare. To him, nothing but petty hypocrisy.

She surrendered. “Fr—it’s actually for Rebecca.”

Her smooth talk was as if she were…

Dominic didn’t say anything.

When the food arrived, he didn’t touch it. That made Vespera feel even more awkward. She was starving, but how was she supposed to eat with him sitting across from her, looking at her with that cold face, as if she were heartless and hypocritical?

She swore that from now on, she would order for him first.

Moments later, Rebecca’s car finally arrived. Through the shop’s glass door, Vespera saw her step out of the driver’s seat, dressed in a white tracksuit. She smiled and raised a hand to greet her, but her smile froze when she noticed him stepping out of the passenger seat.

Dominic noticed her change in expression and turned to look. Dorinac looked up just in time to see two contrasting figures. Rebecca looked like she had lost all hope in life, while Loke radiated pure hostility.

Drake gave little thought to rightly understanding the situation. He turned back to Vespera, who looked like she was about to cry, and simply said, “It’s fate.”

Vespera added numbly and repeated, “Yes, it’s fate.”

After all the running around, he still managed to find her in the end. The door was pushed open.

Lake took a few long strides and sat beside Vespera. His gaze gradually moved from her face to her hands. He suddenly burst into laughter as he pulled her hand and the tray of…

“You were too hungry to wait, so you came here to eat by yourself? Why didn’t you tell me?” he said as he took a bite of the food.

Vespera forced an awkward smile.

Luke then turned toward Dominic. “Tell me, Mr. Reid, why do I always find you hovering around someone else’s wife? Don’t you know she has a husband?”

The diner owner, his wife, and another customer couldn’t help but look over. So many handsome men and beautiful women were showing up in the middle of the night. Was this some sort of scandal unfolding before their eyes?

Rebecca couldn’t bear it anymore as she retorted, “Luke, stop acting like a hyena. Mr. Reid was kind enough to help her.”

Like glanced at her. “Didn’t you say you knew he was interested in her? I want to know the truth.”

Rebecca nearly spat blood.

Neither of them had ever imagined their chat messages would end up being thrown in Dominic’s face like this. The tension in the air thickened.

After a moment, Dominic smiled gently, his demeanor calm and composed. His expression was so serene that it gave the impression that no matter what he did, he always had a reason for it.

With a voice as smooth as silk, he said, “Whether or not I’m interested in Ms. Gildon is entirely my own concern and has nothing to do with her. If my actions today have upset you, Mr. Muner, I can only apologize.”

He added, “However, regardless of your legal status as her husband, doing anything against a woman’s will is utterly disgraceful.”

Vespera held her breath, her heart pounding violently in her chest. This was the first time she’d heard someone say, “Even if I’m interested in your wife, there’s nothing you can do about it,” in such an elegant manner.

Oh my god, this man was truly captivating! Both his appearance and character were like those of an angel!

Luke was left speechless by Dominic’s words. His anger simmered just below the surface. His fists were clenched tight, and if looks could kill, he would be nothing but minced meat.

“Water,” Dominic called out.

The diner owner’s wife pushed her husband aside and came over. “Hey, honey, what else would you like to order?”

Dominic replied, “We were so caught up in our conversation that our food went cold. Please take everything away and bring us four fresh meals.” He glanced at Rebecca. “And add extra meat for this lady.”

Rebecca felt dizzy with admiration. The owner’s wife smiled, “Sure, no problem.”

A short while later, four steaming trays of food were served. Luke was too angry to eat. Vespera, with her thoughts in disarray, barely managed half her food. Rebecca spent the whole time stealing glances at the table beside her, eating only the meat and ignoring the bread.

Only Dominic ate his food slowly and methodically. When he finished, he took a napkin and wiped his mouth. “You’re wasting food.”

“No! I’m not done yet!” Rebecca quickly ate everything before letting out a satisfied burp.

“Becca,” Vespera handed her a napkin. Her face was full of concern, afraid she might throw up. Rebecca had a terrible habit of skipping breakfast and staying up late reviewing case files, which led to a weak stomach. Overeating like this could easily cause acid reflux and…

Kabera waved her hand. “I’m fine. We can’t waste food. Luke, you’d better eat everything!”

Luke shot her a cold glare. Even when Vespera tried to get up and pay the bill, Rebecca pressed her back down. “You’re not allowed to leave any food either.”

That remark left Vespera speechless.
