Listen to this chapter:

Luke rose unsteadily from the ground and lurched toward Dominic, attempting to land a pinch. However, he was so off-balance that his swing missed Dominic entirely, without Dominic even needing to move. The property manager quickly instructed the security guards to support the man.

Luke waved them off, shouting, “Stay out of my way, all of you!”

“Mr. Munoz, please stop causing a scene. You’ve come to the wrong floor. Shall we assist you back upstairs?” The property manager was a plump, medium-sized man. He spoke in a soft, gentle tone, radiating friendliness.

“Who said I’m on the wrong floor? She’s my wife!”

“What?” The property manager was taken aback.

The two security guards were also at a loss for words.

The male resident from the top floor was found in the female resident’s 13th-floor apartment at midnight. The male resident from the 20th floor mistakenly entered the female resident’s apartment on the 13th floor, claiming she was his wife. It was a chaotic and dramatic situation.

Dominic insisted. “He’s talking nonsense. If you don’t act now, we’ll have to involve the police.”

“Are you saying he’s not Ms. Gildon’s…?” The property manager hesitated, uncertain who was telling the truth.

Turning to Vespera, he asked, “Is Mr. Munoz your husband?”

“No, get him out of here,” Vespera replied with a frosty demeanor.

Luke looked at her in shock, his eyes filled with hurt.

It was clear to anyone observing that they knew each other. However, the woman living on the 13th floor denied that he was her husband, and the man from the 30th floor was causing a scene. To avoid any potential liability, the most prudent action was to escort the man back to the 20th floor.

Alongside the property manager, Dominic and Vespera forcibly guided Luke into the elevator, ignoring his furious protests and loud shouts. The elevator doors shut, and the noise of his pounding and angry cries echoed from within. As the elevator ascended, the sounds gradually faded away.

Vespera exhaled in relief, but her face soon grew serious again. If Luke continued to corner her in the parking lot every time she returned home, she would find herself trapped. Selling this place and relocating simply wasn’t an option.

Dominic’s voice broke into her thoughts. “Are you really sure you want a divorce?”

His curiosity seemed genuine. Vespera, meeting his inscrutable gaze, replied honestly, “If I didn’t want a divorce, I could easily ignore his cheating and pretend it never happened, but I’ve made my choice to divorce, and there’s no turning back.”

Dominic acknowledged her response. “You can stay at my place for a few days. Also, it’s best if your friend doesn’t visit for now. Mr. Chandler will ensure you have three meals a day. Focus on recovering from your injuries.”

“Stay at your place?” Vespera hesitated, feeling it might not be right.

He asked, “Do you want to risk another incident like today, or do you have a better plan?”

His words left her silent, as she realized she didn’t have an alternative. Luke might try to block her path, but he wouldn’t be able to reach her at Dominic’s place. This was a temporary escape from Luke. But first, she needed to heal her leg injury; otherwise, running wouldn’t be an option.

“Alright,” she said, packing a few clothes before following Dominic to the top floor. Raymond was already asleep; Dominic set her up in the guest room.

“It’s late. Go get some rest,” he said before leaving.

As Veera lay in the unfamiliar, large bed, everything seemed surreal. Not only was she getting free meals, but she was also staying in her boss’s lavish penthouse. Her night was…

The next morning, she was still groggy when her phone rang. She squinted at the screen to see Yasmine’s name. Answering the call, she barely spoke before Yasmine’s excited voice came through, “Veera! You finally answered. Forget everything else for now and check Instagram immediately!”
