Chapter 270

As the grape popped beside her mouth, the sourness overwhelmed all her senses; Vespera’s expression could have been a new trending internet meme. What kind of grapes wear these?

“An extremely sweet one?” Dominic asked earnestly.

The sourness took over her mind. It felt like her brain had malfunctioned.

“Yes! Sort of. Incredibly sweet! No kidding.” She laughed.

“Extremely sweet, huh? Then you can have all of them.” Dominic pushed the entire plate of grapes toward her and wiped his hands.

“I’ll tell Bayamond to pack you some later. He planted these himself and said they work wonders for people with facial stiffness.”

Well, they were so sour they cured it. She worked hard to swallow the grape. Despite how scary the process of eating it was, at least they were all-natural and toxin-free.

Raymond devoured two bowls of ice cream and saw the grape skins on the table. He looked delighted that someone had eaten them.

“Vespera, do you like them?” he asked happily.

She didn’t have the heart to dash his enthusiasm but feared he might make her eat more, so she quickly changed the subject to the ice cream in his hands.

“That ice cream looks really good!”

“Come try it; I used the best milk I could find.” Raymond handed her a bowl…

“This is so good! It’s really, really good,” she said, taking another spoonful.

“Was that better than the extremely sweet grapes?” Dominic asked.

She was speechless.

“Vespera, you have such great taste. Let me pack some for you so you can eat them at home. Ah, I know they’re a bit sour, but grapes taste better that way,” Raymond offered.

He happily went off to pack them for her. She looked at the grapes on the table and quickly took another spoonful of ice cream.

Dominic was also enjoying his ice cream, eating spoonful after spoonful. So, he likes ice cream, Vespera thought.

As she continued eating, she kept her eyes on him. The atmosphere wasn’t bad now, and she was feeling especially brave today. She wanted to get another thing off her chest. Once that was done, maybe she could sleep soundly again.

“Mr. Reid,” the bittersweet spoon, took a deep breath, and said, “Can we just turn the page and forget what happened that night? I messed up—I acted like a total creep and took advantage of you.”

“Apparently, my hearing sucks too. What I meant was, I feel awful about it. Could you just let this go? Let’s forget it ever happened, okay?”

Dominic set down his spoon and looked at her. She felt her heart jump to her throat. She braced for the humiliation that was sure to come—only for him to say that.

She couldn’t believe her ears. Did he really say that? Was he serious? She had prepared for a long, hard battle. This easy victory felt like she’d missed something.

He gave her a playful smile and said, “Let’s close the book on the past. Only when we look forward can we welcome a new chapter, isn’t that right?”

She blinked, trying to figure out what he meant. His words sounded normal, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a hidden meaning to them.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” he asked.

“Ah, yes, you’re right,” she replied.

Nevermind what he meant. What mattered was…

“Eur… we’ve come to a consensus.”

Under how she looked at it, it sounded like a trap.

Suddenly, she knew she shouldn’t stay any longer. She quickly set down her bowl and rushed back home, using laundry as an excuse.

When she got back, she was so relieved she started humming. Two tough issues, both handled in one day.

She tossed bedclothes into the washing machine and filled the bathtub, ready for a good soak. Just then, the doorbell rang. She tripped by the bathtub, then rushed out to check her phone.

Haymond had texted her a minute ago: “Vespera, you forgot the grapes. I asked Mr. Reid to pass them to you! Eat them while they’re still fresh!”
