Was Dominic meeting with Roxanne for a date? Was there nothing for Gerard to do? Perhaps he should still ask to be sure. He turned around and asked Dominic tentatively, “Mr. Held, shall I arrange for a restaurant later? What does Ms. Moreno like?”

Dominic suddenly opened his eyes, and a glint flashed through his gaze. “What about Ms. Moreno? Who told you about her?”

Noticing Dominic’s stern and displeased expression, Gerard knew he had messed up. If he were to expose Vespera, she might even get into trouble. Gerard stammered, wondering how he could smooth things over, but Dominic answered on his behalf, asking, “Was it Ms. Gildon?”

Vespera, the woman who told him to have a good weekend. Gerard was sweating bullets. Nothing could get past Dominic at all. If Gerard didn’t explain himself, things would only get worse.

“On Wednesday morning, you mentioned visiting Ashford on Saturday, but you never specified what your plans were. On the same day, I brought up your trip to Ms. Gildon.”

“Later, she learned from the office that Ms. Moreno posted pictures of your blind date on Instagram in the afternoon. She even included in her caption that she’s looking forward to trying all the good food in Ashford on Saturday.”

“Since you planned on going to Ashford on Saturday, we put two and two together and assumed you were having a date with Ms. Moreno in Ashford today. So, are you…” Gerard didn’t dare make an assumption.

Calvert, who had been driving, couldn’t bear to listen to Gerard’s stammering anymore. “Gerard, were you asking whether Mr. Reid is having a date with Ms. Moreno later?”

“Well, it’s a no. Mr. Reid has other matters to attend to. Besides, he never had an interest in Ms. Moreno. Why would he even ask her out on a date?” Gerard was speechless. Gosh, he really did misunderstand the situation.

Dominic looked more displeased than ever. He recalled everything that happened that day and two days ago. He suddenly found it hard to breathe. He reached up to loosen his tie and realized he hadn’t worn one today. So, he took out his phone and gave Vespera a call.
