Chapter 195

Just as the car approached Vespera and Luke, it suddenly accelerated, heading straight toward her. Vespera quickly stepped back in panic. Her back collided with Luke, who had been chasing after her. He grabbed her, pulling her into his chest. Then, he tried to back away with her. But thanks to his bright idea of “protecting” her, Vespera lost her balance. She’d been retreating just fine on her own, but with him clinging on, both of them toppled to the ground.

The speeding car was cut off—forced to stop by another vehicle that came out of nowhere.

“Vera!” Rebecca shouted in terror, running up from behind. She helped Vespera up and, in the chaos, kicked Luke hard in the leg. Like a shot, Rebecca glared and stood up, reaching toward Vespera. “Are you okay?”

“Derlon!” Vespera jolted away from his hand.

Two people got out of the two cars that had screeched to a stop. It was Tina and Calvert. The car that tried to ram into Vespera belonged to Tina. The one that stopped her had been Calvert—he’d gone to get the car and had been shadowing them since the night before. He’d even driven them to the police.

Now, Tina charged toward Vespera, eyes wild and burning with madness. “You bitch! Even after the divorce, you’re still trying to seduce him!” She raised her hand, but before she could swing, Calvert stepped in, grabbed her wrist, and dragged her back. Luke also stepped in front of Vespera, acting like he was there to protect her.

Vespera stared blankly and stepped away from him, her expression cold. His feigned concern made her feel even sicker than Tina’s unhinged rage.

“Tina! What the hell were you doing just now? Didn’t I tell you? Don’t touch her. Don’t ever touch her! I told you I’d kill you if you did! What did you promise me!” Luke snapped. His eyes were bloodshot, filled with pure, seething hatred—so raw and deep, he looked like he could strangle her on the spot. There wasn’t a shred of love on his face, only overwhelming disgust. And beneath it, something darker, twisted, and hollow.

Tina’s eyes filled with tears. “You’re my husband! Why did you come to see her? I won’t let you see her!”

“She came here to sign your release agreement! She already gave in. What more do you want?”

“I want you to never see her again! From now on, you can only love me! Only me! No other woman can even get near you! If they do, I’ll make sure they die!”

“You’re insane!” Luke growled. He rubbed his aching forehead, the feeling of being haunted by a demon choking the life out of him. He took a step toward her, eyes dark and furious. “This is your last warning. If you so much as harm a hair on her head, I swear, I will never marry you.”

“No matter what you use to threaten me, I’ll burn everything down before I let that happen. We go down together. I don’t care.”

Tina’s eyes immediately filled with tears. She clung to his arm, shaking her head pitifully. “No, I won’t. I swear I won’t go after her again, I just… I can’t control…”

“It’s because I love you so much, Luke, I love you so, so much. And I’m carrying your baby. You can’t just leave me. I love you. I love you more than anything.” Luke felt his head was about to explode. His face remained cold and expressionless. “This ends now. From this moment on, neither of us will ever bother her.”

She nodded hard, eagerly. “Yes! I’ll do what you say. I promise. I really promise.” Then, like flipping a switch, she turned to Vespera—who had been standing nearby, watching coldly—and flashed a fake, sweet, innocent smile.

“Vespera, I’m sorry. We’re the ones who hurt you. We won’t bother you again… but you shouldn’t come looking for Luke either. Please stop trying to seduce him.” Vespera stayed silent.

“Heavens, can the gods just strike these two lunatics down with lightning already?” she thought. At that point, she genuinely felt like she wasn’t dealing with people anymore; instead, she was facing two full-blown candidates for a psych ward.

Sarcasm was done. There was a point where her outrage got so depleted that even commenting felt like too much effort. She took two steps forward, raised her hand, and pointed at them. “You two, go glue yourselves together. Permanently. Don’t ever come apart. Consider it your contribution to mankind—cleaner air, less noise, doing the world a…”

“You’re insulting me!” Tina snapped, glaring at her. Then, she switched gears again, grinning like she’d won something. “I know you’re bitter. I told you long ago that he was always going to be mine. And now you’ve got nothing. I won.”

Vespera nodded with feigned cheer. “Wow. Totally. I’ve got nothing. You win. Congrats. It’s all yours.” Her dry sarcasm made Tina grit her teeth in frustration.
