Their voices grew more excited as they spoke. The two male employees were speechless, exchanging a glance and wondering, “What exactly are these women thinking?” Ever since Eden from Ravendile showed up at the company with a bouquet, many of the women in the office had become completely obsessed.
Meanwhile, Vespera and Gerard had returned to the top floor. Gerard opened the door to an office. “This is your office. The secretary’s department was originally on this floor, but Mr. Reid prefers peace, so we moved them to…” “You’ve met with everyone downstairs. From now on, you’ll be in charge of the secretary department.”
“Okay, thank you,” Vespera nodded, taking in the new office. It was quite large and beautifully decorated.
Gerard added, “My office is just across from the president’s. If you need anything, you know where to find me.” Vespera smiled and nodded in response.
Gerard left the office but returned shortly. “Oh, by the way, this floor only has the three of us—McHeld, you, and me. You know how Mr. Beid is. He’s kind of a control freak. Like anyone just walking into his office, so sometimes we have to deal with the small details ourselves. It might get…”
Vespera’s smile faltered slightly. “Don’t tell me I’ll have to use a vacuum cleaner to clean his office.”
Chapter 137
Gerard’s expression turned sheepish. “Well, not exactly. Mr. Chandler handles the cleaning. We just need to make coffee for him, press his suits, wake him up…”
“Wait a second,” Vespera raised her hand to stop him, her smile disappearing entirely. “Wake him up? Unless we’re on a business trip, secretaries work nine to five. We’re not supposed to manage his life, are we?” she asked.
Gerard replied honestly, “Mr. Reid has a habit of taking afternoon naps.”
Vespera paused for a few seconds. “Gerard, I think we really need to have a serious talk about our roles. You’re the president’s assistant, while I’m his secretary. Technically, I handle company affairs, and you take care of his personal matters. You’re the one in his inner circle. I don’t mind making coffee in the office, but waking him up? That’s a bit too personal. That’s your job.”
She added, “You’re used to it, anyway.” Inside, Gerard was crying. He wasn’t used to it at all. Domonic was notoriously grumpy when woken up. He’d say, “Wake me up in an hour,” but when the time came, he wouldn’t budge. And if he did wake up, the atmosphere would instantly turn icy. If Gerard let him get more sleep, he’d wake up annoyed, asking, “Then what’s the point of having you around?” Too early, too late—it was never right… And he never even realized it himself.
“Oh come on, there’s no need to split hairs. We all work for Mr. Beid, so we share the workload. Whoever’s free handles it. Anyway, I’ll leave you to it,” Gerard said. With that, he made a quick exit.
Vespera stared after him. Seriously? He just ran away like that? No way. She could compromise on everything else, but the wake-up duty? That was his responsibility. She made a mental note to have another conversation with Gerard about this soon. She closed the door and walked to her desk, setting down her bag and personal items before turning on the computer and setting a password.
