Chapter 102

After a long time, Vespera let out a barely audible laugh. Anger left her at a loss for words.

Yasmine, who was still waiting for Vespera to say something, whispered, “Are you laughing? Why are you even laughing?”

“The Munoz family is clearing Tina’s name by pinning all the blame on you. How can you put up with that?”

“You’d better channel that energy you had at the charity gala and hit them back! Let’s teach those bastards a lesson!!!”

Yasmine had spoken rather harshly. It was hard to believe that she was Halewick’s number one socialite, known for her sweet and elegant demeanor and gentle way of speaking.

Vespera let out a self-mocking chuckle. “Aren’t you worried that what Felicia said might be true? She provided some convincing evidence!”

“Bullshit! I can guarantee with my life that you’re not that kind of person! Anyone in the circle knows about Tina’s awful character.”

“I used to find Luke extremely attractive and sexy! He was so pure and devoted to you. I’ll admit that I used to be jealous of you.”

“But ever since Luke started hanging out with Tina, it’s like he’s hit rock bottom! He has become really disgusting, which makes me want to throw up. Whatever appeal he had is gone now.”

“Also, that childhood betrothal from ten years ago? My goodness! They might as well say they’re married now.” Since Yasmine despised both Luke and Tina, she started complaining again.

When Yasmine first got to know Vespera, Vespera and Luke were always joined at the hip. Luke had considered Vespera the most precious thing ever.

Back then, Yasmine and Vespera weren’t good friends yet. They were merely acquaintances who shared resources for mutual benefit. Whenever they met, they greeted each other with exaggerated friendliness.

But life took a sudden turn, and Yasmine fell from the top into the abyss. Everyone seemed to avoid her like the plague.

Yasmine’s close friends and family, who used to hang out with her often, acted oblivious and avoided her. Some even took the chance to cause trouble when she was at her lowest, but it was Vespera who offered her a helping hand.

Yasmine would never forget how she had been sitting in the snow that day. She had already called everyone she could think of and had no idea who else to contact. Yasmine was at her wit’s end. Although she felt hopeless, she just called every number she could on her contact list. At that moment, she even thought of ending her life.

Yasmine didn’t know how she ended up calling Vespera, who didn’t hang up or brush her off. Instead, Vespera patiently heard her out before saying that she could help her.

Actually, it didn’t matter whether Vespera could even help Yasmine. Anyone willing to lend a hand during a tough time could be trusted for life.

Vespera merely listened to Yasmine’s complaining without a word.

Yasmine became anxious. “Say something! If you’re afraid of them, I’ll help you expose their true colors!”

“Don’t ever provoke them!” Vespera exclaimed. She let out a heavy sigh before saying, “I can handle this myself. Thanks for speaking up for me. Trust me—enough.”

Not only did Vespera drag Vernon and Wanda down, but she also got Rebecca and Dominic in trouble. She didn’t want to get others involved.

Yasmine wanted to insist that she could help out, but didn’t have the guts to do so. She had nothing to stand up to the Munozes and Sowles. “You’re so stupid. I’m letting you order me around, and you’re not even taking advantage of that,” Yasmine replied in a huff.

Vespera merely smiled. “I know you mean well. Just stay on the sidelines, okay?”

“You’re such an idiot. I don’t want to talk to you.” Yasmine ended the call.

Vespera had been forcing herself to appear relaxed. The facade finally crumbled once she put her phone down.
