Yale saw Rachelโs brow twitch; he knew that he had said something wrong and quickly corrected himself. โMs. Lloyd, donโt misunderstand me. I didnโt mean that. I just meant thatโฆ Mr. Hunt isnโt someone like that.โ
Rachel asked, โThen what about Ms. Charlton?โ
โMs. Charltonโฆโ Yale bowed his head, unsure of what to say next. He whispered with uncertainty, โI donโt know about Ms. Charlton.โ
โBut you should be able to tell that Ms. Charlton likes Mr. Hunt, right?โ Rachel probed, as though seeking affirmation.
Yaleโs voice went a pitch higher. โLike? Sheโs obsessed with Mr. Hunt! You may not know this, Ms. Lloyd, but she didnโt just start liking Mr. Hunt. She liked Mr. Hunt since they started working together overseas. Everyone in our company knows about it.โ
โHow long have they been working with each other?โ Rachel asked, curious.
โAbout three years,โ Yale replied, rubbing his chin as though deep in thought.
Rachel was surprised to hear his answer. โThree years overseas, added to the three to four years after Tylerโs return. Thatโs a total of six to seven years!โ
She couldnโt tell that Anne loved Tyler so deeply and for so long. Even she couldnโt guarantee that she could love a single person for so long, and on an unrequited basis. Anne probably knew that Tyler didnโt like her the same way. If he did, he would have been with her a long time ago.
However, all these had nothing to do with Rachel. Conversely, she should find the situation rather unsettling. Since she and Tyler were still bound by contractual terms, they were technically still a couple. Rachel couldnโt reject Tylerโs request to be intimate with her.
Upon the termination of the contract, Tyler had the freedom to like and be with another woman. It would be none of Rachelโs business. Things were different now, however. They were still together; the thought of Tyler being intimate with her and Anne made goosebumps rise on her arms.
Rachel immediately came to another decision. โTo protect Tyler, we should make them stay downstairs where the main hall is. Anne wouldnโt dare do anything bold in public.โ
โBut what if she intoxicates Mr. Hunt and tries to bring him to a hotel room? And Ms. Lloyd, if youโre truly worried that something will happen between Mr. Hunt and Ms. Charlton, why did you agree to let them go on a date in the first place? You really shouldnโt underestimate what a woman can do when sheโs into a man.โ
Rachel didnโt have the capacity to consider so much at that time. She didnโt expect things between Tyler and Anne to progress so quickly.
But by now, whatever Yale pointed out to her was meaningless.
โIโll explain things to you next time. We should be thinking of a way to move them from downstairs to the hall.โ
Yale stuck his hands in his pockets and paced around the room. โMs. Lloyd, how about this? Letโs just tell the bar owner that an important patron needs the room and have him move Mr. Hunt to the hall downstairs.โ
Rachel shook her head. โI donโt think thatโll work. Think about itโif Anne is bent on being with Mr. Hunt, how could she let the owner move them downstairs?โ
What Rachel said made sense.
โIn that case, I really donโt have any ideas. Ms. Lloyd, what about you?โ
Rachel pursed her lips. โIf thereโs really nothing else we can do, thereโs only one way.โ
Yale asked with curiosity, โWhat is it?โ
Rachel leaned in close to Yale and told him her plan.
โHuh?!โ Yale exclaimed in shock. โMs. Lloyd, are you sure this will work? What if the owner doesnโt play along with us?โ
He found it a very risky plan.
