Cecilia immediately grew alert. โWas it because of me? I really did slip up yesterday. Rachel, Iโm so sorry! Iโve just dragged you down again.โ
โItโs fine. Even if you hadnโt slipped, with someone as sharp as Tyler, chances are he wouldโve figured it out anyway.โ
Rachel didnโt want Cecilia to take all the blame and kept trying to reassure her, but Cecilia knew Rachel all too well. โRachel, I know youโre just trying to comfort me. I feel so bad that I couldnโt defend myself. I really was useless. It was so hard to look Mr. Hunt in the eyes. I was petrified!โ
โStop worrying about that. Iโll figure something out. What you need to do is focus on your job. Also, the debt collectors will probably show up again in the next couple of days. You need to be ready for that.โ
Rachel thought it over. If she wanted Tyler to truly believe, then the act had to be convincing. After all, real debt collectors never come just once. Tyler might very well send someone else to investigate in secret. He had already suspected Yale.
Cecilia quickly nodded. โDonโt worry, I can handle that.โ
Rachel didnโt press further. โAlright then, get back to work. I need to pack. Weโre leaving on a business trip.โ
โOkay.โ
After hanging up, Rachel hurried to get ready. As she pulled back the blanket to dress, she realized her body was completely clean. Considering how drunk she had been last night, there was no way she could wash herself. That left only one explanationโTyler had taken care of her.
Oddly enough, that comforted her. Most men wouldnโt bother. Once they were done, theyโd just pull up their pants and walk away without a second thought.
She changed, put on a light touch of makeup at the vanity, and since it was a business trip, dressed more formally. After opening the drawer, she spotted the perfume Tyler had bought her and decided to use it as well. When Tyler came out of the shower and saw Rachel already dressed, he looked a little surprised.
โThat was fast. No headache?โ
โIโm fine.โ
He got dressed quickly and grabbed the luggage heโd already packed.
โGood. Letโs head downstairs, eat breakfast quickly, and go.โ
While descending the stairs, Rachelโs legs buckled suddenly. Her body swayed forward.
โOh no!โ
Her eyes widened, and she braced for pain, but it never came. A firm arm caught her around the waist. Looking up, she found herself faceโtoโface with Tyler.
For some reason, the instant she saw him, all the tension drained from her chest. It was replaced by an inexplicable sense of safety.
Seeing her still shaken, Tyler teased, โRachel, are your legs still weak?โ
Rachel shot him a glare before wriggling out of his hold.
โDonโt start. Itโs your fault, anyway. Canโt you restrain yourself a little? Why do you have to go so far each time? A person can only handle so much.โ
Tyler smirked. He leaned forward and murmured in her ear, โBut last night, werenโt you the one begging me?โ
Rachelโs face turned red. โYou liar!โ
Almost as if heโd anticipated her denial, Tyler pulled out his phone. โI knew youโd say that. Want to listen to it yourself?โ
Realization dawned on her. Her pupils contracted, and she cried out, โTyler, you pervert!โ
