Chapter 702

Yale could only swallow the matter for now. Pushing too hard wouldnโ€™t help.

โ€œAlright then, Ms. Lloyd, just be careful. Mr. Huntโ€™s really suspicious of us right now. He might even start doubting you when he gets back.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine. Iโ€™ve got a way to ease his doubts.โ€

Hearing that, Yale finally felt some relief. At least one of them had Tylerโ€™s trust. If both drew suspicion, it would be over.

Rachel suddenly said softly, โ€œEnough, I canโ€™t talk anymore. Sounds like Tylerโ€™s back.โ€

Yale hung up right away.

Rachel deleted the call log, then lay down and pretended to be asleep.

Minutes later, the door creaked open.

The scent of cedar and cigarettes drifted over.

โ€œRachel, pretending to sleep again?โ€

Tylerโ€™s chin brushed the crown of her head. His palm covered her cold hand, fingertips grazing her skin with slow precision.

Rachelโ€™s brows twitched. What was with this man? How could he always see straight through her? Even her pretending to be asleep couldnโ€™t fool him. She was sure she hadnโ€™t slipped.

She decided to just keep it up. He could be testing her, and she couldnโ€™t afford to crack.

Tyler, seeing her perfectly still, pulled her into his arms. Rachel felt the warmth of his breath against her ears.

His tie hung loose, brushing against her skin and tickling her. His hand wandered and stoked sparks wherever it touched, until Rachelโ€™s breathing grew unsteady.

This was getting dangerous.

She rolled over, unable to keep up the act. The moment her eyes opened, they locked with Tylerโ€™s cold gaze. Yet in the dim light, they glowed with a faint amber.

โ€œWhy are you back so late?โ€

It took her ages to force out even those few words.

Tyler chuckled. โ€œSo, you admit you were faking sleep, waiting for me to return?โ€

Since she couldnโ€™t avoid it, Rachel simply admitted it. โ€œI just got up to use the bathroom. Who knew youโ€™d walk in right after I lay down?โ€

โ€œOh? Well, are you still sleepy? If not, keep me company for a drink.โ€

Rachel saw the hungry look in his eyes. If she refused, heโ€™d probably find some other way to pass the time. Once Tyler started, thereโ€™d be no rest until morning.

She planned to get him drunk quickly so heโ€™d fall asleep. That way, she could avoid further trouble.

โ€œAlright.โ€

They sat out on the balcony. The night breeze brushed against them. Tyler brought out two glasses and even a spread of barbecue.

Rachelโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œWhereโ€™d you get this?โ€

โ€œStopped by that old barbecue stand you used to love on the way back.โ€

Rachel rubbed her hands together in delight. โ€œTheyโ€™re still open at this hour?โ€

โ€œLucky timing. Dig in.โ€

She was practically drooling. That stall was her weakness. On days she thought about going there, by nightfall, she would be too lazy to move from the couch.

She grabbed a skewer of mushrooms. After savoring a bite, she sipped on some wine. Bliss was written all over her face.

Tyler ate a pork skewer before casually dropping a question. โ€œYou think those three overseas projects mightโ€™ve come from one of my old flames?โ€

Rachel had just taken a sip of wine. She nearly choked it all back out, clutching her chest as she coughed violently.

Cough, cough, cough!
