Chapter 647
Jerry couldnโt help but admire Rachel. In the end, he gave in.
โRachel, whatever you say goes.โ
Rachel looked at himโearly twenties, the perfect age for datingโyet he buried himself in work every single day. Whatever debt he thought he owed her over the years, she figured he had pretty much paid it back by now.
She tested the waters.
โJerry, have you ever thought about dating someone?โ
The word dating caught him off guard.
โRachel, do you think Iโm a little slow? Is that why you suddenly want me to date? Or do you think Iโm bothering you by sticking around?โ
The sharp edge in his demeanor vanished. He suddenly looked more like a boy than a man, vulnerable, as if she had scolded him for something he hadnโt done.
She hurried to reassure him.
โNo, Jerry, thatโs not what I meant. I just think youโre at the right age. Dating can actually be fun. Youโre always by yourself, and honestly, it worries me. Look, Iโve got a boyfriend now, and I want you to have someone who can spend time with you, too.โ
Only then did Jerry seem to relax.
โIโm fine, Rachel. Really. As long as I have you, Iโm okay. Besides, dating sounds like a hassle. Not my thing.โ
Rachel knew Jerry wasnโt as tough as he pretended to be. His sharpness was just a shieldโunderneath, he was straightforward, even naive. But still, she wished he had someone by his side. Working nonstop left him far too isolated.
She pressed gently. โHow about this? Since youโve never tried dating, let me introduce you to someone when I find the right girl. You two can give it a shot. If it doesnโt work out, thatโs fine too.โ
She looked at him expectantly. Jerry wanted to refuse, but when he saw her watching him like that, his resolve softened. In the end, he agreed.
โAlright. Iโll try.โ
Rachel smiled. โGood. Who knows, maybe someday Iโll even be at your wedding. Iโll give you a generous cash gift.โ
Without thinking, she reached up and ruffled his hair.
Jerry dropped his gaze, pouted, and muttered under his breath, โI donโt want to get married. I donโt want your cash gift, either.โ
โWhat?โ Rachel leaned in, raising her voice. โWhat did you just say?โ
Startled, Jerry instinctively backed away. โNothing.โ
Rachel didnโt think much of it, completely missing the flicker of unease on his face.
Once they had finished most of the work, Rachel stretched and patted Jerryโs shoulder.
โDo you want to rest for a bit?โ
Jerry stood up. โWhere are you headed?โ
โIโm going to the Lloyd family estate,โ Rachel said while narrowing her eyes.
She needed to deal with Jimโs things. If she let Sasha continue running wild, sooner or later, something would blow up.
Without hesitation, Jerry replied, โThen Iโm going with you.โ
Rachel smiled and tilted her chin toward him. โAlright. Letโs go.โ
Before leaving, she stopped by to tell Yale.
โIโve got something to take care of. Watch over Tyler for me. And make sure he eats. Heโs been so caught up in work these past few days, heโs probably skipped meals.โ
โGot it,โ Yale said with a nod.
Deep down, he couldnโt help but think that if Tyler really did end up marrying Rachel, at least someone would finally be there to take care of the man.
When Rachel and Jerry pulled up to the Lloyd family estate, she gazed at the house. Every time she came back here, she would feel something different.
