Chapter 647

Jerry couldnโ€™t help but admire Rachel. In the end, he gave in.

โ€œRachel, whatever you say goes.โ€

Rachel looked at himโ€”early twenties, the perfect age for datingโ€”yet he buried himself in work every single day. Whatever debt he thought he owed her over the years, she figured he had pretty much paid it back by now.

She tested the waters.

โ€œJerry, have you ever thought about dating someone?โ€

The word dating caught him off guard.

โ€œRachel, do you think Iโ€™m a little slow? Is that why you suddenly want me to date? Or do you think Iโ€™m bothering you by sticking around?โ€

The sharp edge in his demeanor vanished. He suddenly looked more like a boy than a man, vulnerable, as if she had scolded him for something he hadnโ€™t done.

She hurried to reassure him.

โ€œNo, Jerry, thatโ€™s not what I meant. I just think youโ€™re at the right age. Dating can actually be fun. Youโ€™re always by yourself, and honestly, it worries me. Look, Iโ€™ve got a boyfriend now, and I want you to have someone who can spend time with you, too.โ€

Only then did Jerry seem to relax.

โ€œIโ€™m fine, Rachel. Really. As long as I have you, Iโ€™m okay. Besides, dating sounds like a hassle. Not my thing.โ€

Rachel knew Jerry wasnโ€™t as tough as he pretended to be. His sharpness was just a shieldโ€”underneath, he was straightforward, even naive. But still, she wished he had someone by his side. Working nonstop left him far too isolated.

She pressed gently. โ€œHow about this? Since youโ€™ve never tried dating, let me introduce you to someone when I find the right girl. You two can give it a shot. If it doesnโ€™t work out, thatโ€™s fine too.โ€

She looked at him expectantly. Jerry wanted to refuse, but when he saw her watching him like that, his resolve softened. In the end, he agreed.

โ€œAlright. Iโ€™ll try.โ€

Rachel smiled. โ€œGood. Who knows, maybe someday Iโ€™ll even be at your wedding. Iโ€™ll give you a generous cash gift.โ€

Without thinking, she reached up and ruffled his hair.

Jerry dropped his gaze, pouted, and muttered under his breath, โ€œI donโ€™t want to get married. I donโ€™t want your cash gift, either.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Rachel leaned in, raising her voice. โ€œWhat did you just say?โ€

Startled, Jerry instinctively backed away. โ€œNothing.โ€

Rachel didnโ€™t think much of it, completely missing the flicker of unease on his face.

Once they had finished most of the work, Rachel stretched and patted Jerryโ€™s shoulder.

โ€œDo you want to rest for a bit?โ€

Jerry stood up. โ€œWhere are you headed?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m going to the Lloyd family estate,โ€ Rachel said while narrowing her eyes.

She needed to deal with Jimโ€™s things. If she let Sasha continue running wild, sooner or later, something would blow up.

Without hesitation, Jerry replied, โ€œThen Iโ€™m going with you.โ€

Rachel smiled and tilted her chin toward him. โ€œAlright. Letโ€™s go.โ€

Before leaving, she stopped by to tell Yale.

โ€œIโ€™ve got something to take care of. Watch over Tyler for me. And make sure he eats. Heโ€™s been so caught up in work these past few days, heโ€™s probably skipped meals.โ€

โ€œGot it,โ€ Yale said with a nod.

Deep down, he couldnโ€™t help but think that if Tyler really did end up marrying Rachel, at least someone would finally be there to take care of the man.

When Rachel and Jerry pulled up to the Lloyd family estate, she gazed at the house. Every time she came back here, she would feel something different.
