The two of them rushed to the hospital at once.
When Cecilia arrived at the ward and saw Jerry, who was making his way in, she paused mid-stride in surprise. Jerryโs face was way too attention-grabbing for her to ignore him. His eyes were aggressive and hostile, the edge of his jaw sharp and incisive. On closer look, however, his features were exquisite and rather good-looking. They exchanged glances for a split second before Cecilia looked away. She paused for a moment, letting Jerry enter first. Jerry walked into the room; when he saw her on the bed, he greeted her automatically.
โHi, Rachel.โ
Rachel was in the middle of getting out of bed and packing her luggage. She turned around when she heard Jerryโs voice. Seeing that it was him, she smiled brightly.
โHi, Jerry. Itโs been a while.โ
Jerry reached out to fold Rachel into a hug. Cecilia, still standing at the door, was shocked to see it. Rachelโฆ Rachel knew this man! Cecilia had thought that it was someone the Zieglers had hired to cause Rachel trouble. He appeared very much like a hitman to Cecilia. Whatever it was, he certainly didnโt look meek or easy-going.
Rachel tiptoed and rubbed his hair affectionately. โYou look like youโve lost weight. Are you unwell or something?โ
โNo, I just feel a little bored alone sometimes,โ Jerry said, a hint of indignation in his voice.
Cecilia was taken aback by this scene. She couldnโt believe that a young man with a seemingly rebellious streak and such aggressive eyes would have this spoiled side to him, whining as though he was being treated unfairly. How pretentious! Yes, that was it.
Rachel reached out to gently pat his shoulder. โDonโt worry. I have a lot of work for you to do. I guarantee you wonโt find it dull.โ
Jerry tucked his aggression and dominance away, making sure that he was on his best behavior before Rachel.
โYes! Please donโt send me elsewhere this time, Rachel. Can you let me stay by your side, no matter what happens?โ
The corner of Rachelโs lips lifted. โDonโt worry. I wonโt let you go even if you want to go. Things are getting busy, and I need your help.โ
Instead of feeling the heat, Jerry was glad to hear Rachelโs words.
โNo problem, just let me know what you need help with and Iโll be on it. If you hadnโt invested heavily in my studies, I wouldnโt be who I am today. For all you know, Iโd probably be doing odd jobs at a factory.โ
Jerry was born an orphan. Heโd follow other hooligans and go around stealing from others. Although he knew it wasnโt the right thing to do, he wouldnโt have food to eat if he dared disobey them. It wasnโt an exaggeration to say that Rachel was his second parent.
Rachel, on the other hand, didnโt think much of it.
โItโs no trouble at all. Whatโs more, if you didnโt work as hard as you did or exhibit the talent you have, it doesnโt matter how much I invested in you. Itโd be in vain.โ
Cecilia was very confused by their conversation. She stepped forward and interrupted them.
โWait. What are you two talking about? Why do I not understand a word of it? Rachel, do you know him? Why have I never seen him before?โ
It was a long story that Rachel had no idea where to begin retelling.
โIโll explain to you in more detail later on. Please help me take this luggage to the car. Itโs not very convenient for me to do so right now.โ
Cecilia was dumbfounded. โAre you getting discharged? Has your condition stabilized? Did your doctor allow you to get discharged?โ
Cecilia threw Rachel a bunch of questions, overwhelming her with information overload.
โThe situation is getting more tense now. I canโt be bothered about such trivialities right now. Whatโs more, Iโm perfectly fine. Why canโt I be discharged?โ
Cecilia could guess from Rachelโs tone the reason behind the rush and shrugged helplessly.
โAlright, I think I get it.โ
Rachel was secretly leaving the hospital without the doctorโs permission.
Instead of returning to the apartment, Rachel went straight to the hotel. When she arrived at the entrance, she turned to ask Jerry, โHow long did you rent the room for?โ
โOne week.โ
Rachel did a rough calculation in her head and knew that their time was almost up. She took a deep breath and turned her gaze to the entrance of the hotel.
โItโs now or never.โ
