Yvetteโs eyes went wide with disbelief.
โDad, what are you saying? You want me to give up my inheritance? Are you out of your mind? Iโm your daughter! And besides, I grew up in the countryside and went through all that hardship. You should be giving me more!โ
She didnโt even need to ask how much Jim had left her. From his words alone, she could tell it wasnโt much. With Sasha now heading for divorce, she wouldnโt get much either. That left nearly everything for Rachel.
Jimโs expression darkened with disappointment.
โAt this point, youโre still so selfish, only thinking about money. Yvette, youโve had the life you have today because of me. If I hadnโt spoiled you too much, you wouldnโt have ended up like this.โ
Yvette, misreading his words, thought he was feeling guilty. She tried to cover it up with a weak smile. โYeah, Dad, if you hadnโt given me away by mistake, I wouldnโt have grown up so starved for love.โ
Jimโs voice cut through sharply.
โThatโs not what I meant, Yvette. Since thatโs how it is, forget the money. From now on, I will make it clear to everyone that you have no connection to the Lloyd family. In the company, no one will give you special treatment just because of your family name. Everything from now on follows company rules. Rachel is the one running the company. Iโm in no shape to manage it myself, so this responsibility falls on her.โ
Yvette froze, completely dumbfounded. โDad, are you crazy? Are you sick in the head? Why would you do this to me? Are you really cutting me off?!โ
Sasha panicked and grabbed her. โYvette, your dadโs lost it! He must be out of his mind. We need to get him to a doctor, a psychiatrist, right away!โ
Yvetteโs mind had been spinning, but Sashaโs words snapped her back.
Her eyes lit up. She forced herself to stay calm because panicking didnโt help with anything. She was still the legitimate Lloyd daughter.
Rachel was just an illegitimate child. Besides, she had even said she wanted to cut ties with the Lloyd family herself.
Yvette squared her shoulders and coughed softly, her voice much steadier than before.
โDad, youโre not feeling well today. Letโs talk about the company and the inheritance another day. Saying it here wonโt make it official.โ
With that, she shot Sasha a glance, and the two of them hurriedly left.
The room was left with only Rachel, Jim, and the nurse. Jim waved a hand, then coughed violently again. Rachel could see his face had grown paler by the second, and her heart ached.
โDad, please go back and rest. You need to stay in the hospital.โ
Jimโs veins bulged on his forehead. His face was gaunt, and his cheekbones hollow. The dark circles around his eyes were obvious. It was clear that without sheer willpower, he would have collapsed already.
But he waved it off.
โI need to settle this before I leave. Rachel, I already gave the will to Larry, the butler. Itโs all notarized. Thereโs no way they can change a thing.โ
