Chapter 596
Sheryn finally broke down in tears and poured everything out to Wilma.
Wilma was silent for a moment on the other end of the line, then burst out in disbelief.
โWhat did you just say?! You sided with Howard and refused to testify for Tyler? Sheryn, have you completely lost your mind? What is Howard to you, huh? Why are you helping an outsider?โ
It was rare for Sheryn to hear Wilma raise her voice. Though she was only Wilmaโs adopted daughter, Wilma had always treated her well over the years. This was the first time Sheryn had heard her so furious, but Sheryn felt wronged.
โMom, you canโt put all the blame on me! If it werenโt for Rachel stirring up trouble, things wouldnโt have turned out like this. You didnโt see itโTyler was willing to throw his life away for that woman! Why? What does she have that I donโt?โ
She was too busy airing her grievances to notice Wilmaโs growing exasperation.
โYou foolish child! Canโt you tell the difference between a moment and a lifetime? Even if you canโt marry your cousin, heโs been supporting us all these years without shortchanging you once! And now youโve gone and offended him, running off to throw in your lot with Howard. Let me guessโHoward promised you something, and now heโs gone back on his word, hasnโt he?โ
Just the mention of Howard made Sheryn cry harder.
โMom, heโs a bastard! He promised me 1.5 million, and I did everything he asked. But now heโs changed his mind and cut it down to just 100,000.โ
If she had the courage, she would have taken a knife to him already.
Wilma grew frantic, her voice rising into a near-scream over the phone.
โSheryn, youโve ruined our lives! Iโd like to see how you plan to fix this mess now!โ
Sheryn had no answers. She could only pin all her hopes on Wilma. Stamping her foot and wiping away tears, she pleaded, โMom, what are we going to do? If Tyler doesnโt help us, how will we survive?โ
Seeing how desperate she was, Wilma took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
โSheryn, itโs already come to this. You have no choice but to make Howard give you the money.โ
Sheryn looked frustrated.
โBut Mom, heโs only offering 100,000โotherwise, nothing at all.โ
Wilmaโs temper flared again, her voice sharp with fury.
โThis is your own doing! What, do you expect me to go groveling at Howardโs feet to get your money?โ
Then came her final, unyielding command.
โI donโt care how you do it, but youโd better get that money! Otherwise, be prepared to live like an ordinary nobody. Donโt say I didnโt warn you.โ
With that, Wilma hung up without giving Sheryn a chance to respond.
Sheryn clenched her phone, her chest heaving. She angrily wiped her tears away.
This was all Rachelโs fault, and she would make that woman pay!
