Chapter 596

Sheryn finally broke down in tears and poured everything out to Wilma.

Wilma was silent for a moment on the other end of the line, then burst out in disbelief.

โ€œWhat did you just say?! You sided with Howard and refused to testify for Tyler? Sheryn, have you completely lost your mind? What is Howard to you, huh? Why are you helping an outsider?โ€

It was rare for Sheryn to hear Wilma raise her voice. Though she was only Wilmaโ€™s adopted daughter, Wilma had always treated her well over the years. This was the first time Sheryn had heard her so furious, but Sheryn felt wronged.

โ€œMom, you canโ€™t put all the blame on me! If it werenโ€™t for Rachel stirring up trouble, things wouldnโ€™t have turned out like this. You didnโ€™t see itโ€“Tyler was willing to throw his life away for that woman! Why? What does she have that I donโ€™t?โ€

She was too busy airing her grievances to notice Wilmaโ€™s growing exasperation.

โ€œYou foolish child! Canโ€™t you tell the difference between a moment and a lifetime? Even if you canโ€™t marry your cousin, heโ€™s been supporting us all these years without shortchanging you once! And now youโ€™ve gone and offended him, running off to throw in your lot with Howard. Let me guessโ€“Howard promised you something, and now heโ€™s gone back on his word, hasnโ€™t he?โ€

Just the mention of Howard made Sheryn cry harder.

โ€œMom, heโ€™s a bastard! He promised me 1.5 million, and I did everything he asked. But now heโ€™s changed his mind and cut it down to just 100,000.โ€

If she had the courage, she would have taken a knife to him already.

Wilma grew frantic, her voice rising into a near-scream over the phone.

โ€œSheryn, youโ€™ve ruined our lives! Iโ€™d like to see how you plan to fix this mess now!โ€

Sheryn had no answers. She could only pin all her hopes on Wilma. Stamping her foot and wiping away tears, she pleaded, โ€œMom, what are we going to do? If Tyler doesnโ€™t help us, how will we survive?โ€

Seeing how desperate she was, Wilma took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.

โ€œSheryn, itโ€™s already come to this. You have no choice but to make Howard give you the money.โ€

Sheryn looked frustrated.

โ€œBut Mom, heโ€™s only offering 100,000โ€“otherwise, nothing at all.โ€

Wilmaโ€™s temper flared again, her voice sharp with fury.

โ€œThis is your own doing! What, do you expect me to go groveling at Howardโ€™s feet to get your money?โ€

Then came her final, unyielding command.

โ€œI donโ€™t care how you do it, but youโ€™d better get that money! Otherwise, be prepared to live like an ordinary nobody. Donโ€™t say I didnโ€™t warn you.โ€

With that, Wilma hung up without giving Sheryn a chance to respond.

Sheryn clenched her phone, her chest heaving. She angrily wiped her tears away.

This was all Rachelโ€™s fault, and she would make that woman pay!
