Chapter 593

Sheryn looked at Tyler with a torn expression.

โ€œTyler, donโ€™t push me. Rachel still has you to back her up, but what about us?โ€

โ€œDoing the right thing is what you should be doing. Donโ€™t use Howard as an excuse. When his two men tried to assault you, you didnโ€™t give in. So why suddenly act like Howard has such a hold over you now?โ€ Tyler retorted.

Sheryn felt like she was being roasted over an open flame. She knew Tyler wouldnโ€™t actually harm her, but if she testified for Rachel, she and her mother would be in serious trouble.

Besides, helping Tyler meant helping Rachel, and Sheryn wanted nothing to do with that woman. If it werenโ€™t for Rachel, she and Tyler might have been together long ago!

That thought alone sent a flash of anger surging through her chest. This time, her refusal was firm.

โ€œSorry, Tyler. I canโ€™t help you with this. If I do, I wonโ€™t be able to stay in Yurelia City. I hope you can understand. My mom and I arenโ€™t like Ms. Lloyd. She has you behind her. We have no one.โ€

With that, Sheryn stood to leave. Even Yale couldnโ€™t stomach it anymore.

โ€œMs. Lyons, you and Ms. Lloyd are both women. You were almost sexually assaulted. You should be standing with us to punish the man who did this, not protecting him. And besides, after all these years, you know exactly how well Mr. Hunt has treated you.โ€

Sheryn stopped walking before turning to face him.

โ€œIf you want to blame someone, blame Ms. Lloyd. If it werenโ€™t for her, Howard wouldnโ€™t be at odds with Tyler. If it werenโ€™t for her, I wouldnโ€™t have been taken hostage. Why are you pushing me? Shouldnโ€™t she be the one youโ€™re blaming? Sheโ€™s the spark that lit this whole fire!

โ€œHoward or no Howard, I wouldnโ€™t help her. Tyler and I grew up together. We were practically engaged. I was so close to finally getting what Iโ€™d dreamed of for years. Then she barged in out of nowhere!โ€

The more she spoke, the more upset she felt. Her chest rose and fell with every breath.

โ€œIf she were truly exceptionalโ€”if her background matched Tylerโ€™sโ€”fine. But no, sheโ€™s divorced. Sheโ€™s Williamโ€™s ex-wife! How could my cousin possibly be with someone like that?โ€

Tylerโ€™s expression had been cold before, but now a darker, more dangerous edge crept in. The pressure rolling off him felt like an ocean swell that was dense and suffocating. He glanced at Sheryn coldly.

โ€œSheryn, you have no right to pass judgment on Rachel in front of me. Got it? Even if she didnโ€™t exist, I still wouldnโ€™t have married you.โ€

His voice was harsh. Sheryn had suspected for a while that there was no future for the two of them, but hearing him slap the brutal truth down in plain words still left her reeling.

Her face drained of all color, and her legs felt rooted to the floor. Tyler didnโ€™t spare her another glance. When he didnโ€™t like someone, he didnโ€™t even pretend otherwise.

โ€œYale, letโ€™s go.โ€

โ€œYes, sir.โ€

Yale felt Sheryn had crossed a line, allowing petty rivalry to outweigh any regard for another personโ€™s dignity. Supporting Tyler, he walked past her without so much as a glance.
