Chapter 545
Tyler didnโt say much. He just let out a low hum, almost like he was going to make another joke.
โGo on, tell me what youโre thinking. Though, I do know a little about the fire you were caught in back then.โ
Rachel couldnโt help but start recalling the past.
โI remember seeing someone in the fire, but I couldnโt make out the face clearly, so I couldnโt be sure it was William. And when I woke up, he was by my side, but there wasnโt a single burn or scratch on him. That just seemed off.โ
It had been a massive fire. How could someone walk away from it completely unharmed?
If no one had rescued her, Rachel was certain she wouldโve died in there. Yet William didnโt have any injuries. It didnโt make sense.
He had claimed he was wearing protective gear, which helped shield him from the worst of the flames. It was why Rachel didnโt question it at the time. Besides, it hadnโt even occurred to her back then that something might be off.
Who would lie about something like that?
But after everything that had just happenedโhow William had lied to her about the barbecue shop owner, how he had impersonated Tylerโshe was beginning to question everything.
If he could go that far just to deceive her, what else was he capable of?
Meanwhile, Tyler stood there with his hands still in his pockets, casually tossing fish food into the pond like he had all the time in the world.
โSo? What are you getting at? The person who saved you wasnโt him, but someone else?โ
Rachel wasnโt certain. But after today, the seed of doubt had taken root, and she couldnโt help but suspect it mightโve been Tyler.
Too bad she had no proof. There was no clear reason, either. It was just a hunch stirred up by what she had witnessed earlier.
She couldnโt exactly come right out and ask Tyler, โHey, were you the one who saved me back then?โ That would be too abrupt.
So she tried to probe gently, hoping he might say something on his own.
Rachel nodded. โI want to find out who really saved me that day.โ
โAnd if it turns out it was someone else?โ Tyler asked, suddenly leaning close to her.
His breath was warm on her face. Rachel found herself staring straight into those deep, dark eyes of hisโeyes that sometimes felt like black holes, pulling her in the longer she looked.
She held his gaze for a moment, her heart pounding. She couldnโt tell if he was testing her or just genuinely curious.
What could she say to get him to reveal some information?
She remembered once seeing a scar on his body. It didnโt look recentโit looked like a burn. But back then, she had never connected it to the fire. It just didnโt cross her mind.
Then, with a sly glint in her eyes, Rachel smiled up at him.
โIf someone else really did save me, I guess Iโll just have to marry him. What do you think?โ
Tylerโs gaze turned darker, and he leaned in to murmur into her ear. โRachel, donโt forget that youโre my girlfriend right now. Already looking to trade up, huh?โ
Rachel fired back, โItโs not like weโre really dating, weโre just preten-โ
Before she could finish her sentence, Tyler suddenly kissed her.
Rachelโs eyes widened, and her mind went blank.
What the hell just happened? Was this an episode triggered by hormones? Was he acting like a dog going into heat?
As she tried to make sense of it, voices drifted over from nearby.
โWilliam, seriously, what are you even thinking? If Rachel really likes Tyler, just let them be together! Everyoneโs saying youโre still hung up on her.โ
