Wilma was so crestfallen and downcast that seeing her daughter set her off. Immediately, she vented her frustrations on Sheryn.
โThe nerve of you to ask! If you hadnโt made me look up Tyler, would he have told me off?โ she yelled.
Sheryn was in a daze when she saw her mother limping, and quickly held her steady.
โWhat happened? Werenโt you fine when you went to meet Tyler? Wasnโt he the one who asked you out for coffee?โ
Wilma plopped down on the couch.
โWas that asking me out just for coffee? He called me out to slaughter me! He berated and reprimanded me like I was a kid, all for his damn dog and Rachel Lloyd!โ
Wilma had never been treated like this her entire life and was practically defenseless before Tyler. She felt thoroughly humiliated.
Sheryn was shocked. โHuh? How could that be? Doesnโt Tyler hold you in the highest regard? Youโre also his aunt. How could he bear to tell you off for that wicked woman?โ
Wilma herself didnโt understand either, and said huffily, โI still can accept it if he did it for a person, but he reprimanded me for a dog. Can you believe that?โ
โImpossible! Tyler respects you so much. How could he argue with you over a dog? Thatโs just impossible!โ Sheryn cried.
โWould I lie to you about something like this?โ
The thought of her being treated like a fool by Tyler made Wilma feel horrible. It would have been fine if it were over something major, but he told her off for something as trivial as a woman!
Sherynโs phone dinged; she looked at her screen, her eyes almost popping out when she read the words on it.
โMom, weโre doomed! What in the world did you tell Tyler?โ
The frustration in Wilmaโs chest grew when she heard that. โWhat are you yelling at me for? Why are you losing your cool like an emotionally unstable teenager? Howโre you going to marry Tyler like this?โ
Right after Wilma said that, her phone buzzed as well. She pulled it out and glanced at the screen before shrieking out loud shortly after.
โAhhhhh!โ
Sheryn rolled her eyes at her mother. โWhat did you just say a moment ago? Donโt lose your cool like an emotionally unstable teenager?โ
Wilma stuttered, โHowโฆhow could your cousin act like this? Itโs just a dog, and I barely even touched Rachel! How could he reduce our credit limit?โ
Sheryn had pinned all her hopes on her mom to persuade Tyler to stop what he was doing with Rachel.
The result? He stopped helping them instead!
The fact that Tyler treated his aunt Wilma this way for Rachel, a divorcee and an illegitimate daughter, proved just how important she was to him.
Sheryn, meanwhile, had gone to such great lengths just to make Tyler glance her way. That alone was enough to make her content.
This was all Rachelโs fault!
Suddenly, Sheryn remembered that Thomasโ birthday was right around the corner. That would be a great opportunity for him to put his foot down on this matter.
โIโm not scared of going to Thomas for this,โ Wilma said fearfully โbut if your cousin finds out, he might just completely remove our credit limit.โ
Sherynโs face fell in an instant. โSeriously, Mom. Whatโs with you? Is my marriage or your pride more important? Think about itโdo you really think itโs possible for him to keep helping us out financially in this current state?โ
Wilma was stunned by Sherynโs question.
She had never thought about that, since she knew that the money Tyler gave them was peanuts to him.
However, what happened today made her see things differently.
What ifโฆwhat if Tyler decided to turn a blind eye to them? What would they do?
Left with no choice, Wilma had to do as Sheryn suggested.
