Chapter 169
Tylerโs face turned dark with displeasure, and he replied mercilessly, โWhether she pursues a relationship or not has nothing to do with me.โ
Rachelโs face stiffened, her lips pursed tight. โDo you not have any sympathy for a young lady who has feelings for you?โ
She found it absolutely reasonable to break it to Tammy as gently as he could. There was no need to be so blatant in his rejection. What's more, it wasnโt wrong of her to like him.
Tyler took a long pull on his cigarette and tapped away the ashes. In a mocking tone, he said, โSo why donโt you just let Samantha take your place, since she likes William so much? Is tolerating her the right way to solve this problem in your opinion?โ
Rachel was stunned for a moment.
She never expected Tyler to suddenly bring this up.
Then again, since when was Tyler gentle with his words?
However, it was his freedom to say whatever he wanted. What right did she have to point fingers and comment about his approach to matters?
Rachel didnโt want to offend Tyler.
There was no need to, anyway. She wasnโt going to stay long in Yurelia.
Perhaps that was just the way he treated everyone else.
She had initially found him acceptable despite his sharp tongue, because he did help her fulfil her motherโs dying wish. He had personality, to boot.
Even so, she felt that he had spoken out of line just now. She stood up and approached him, her brows furrowed.
โMr. Hunt, do you think I should charge at Samantha and pick a fight with her, or throw a tantrum and threaten to kill myself before William, forcing him to break up with her?โ
Tyler shrugged his shoulders and said indifferently, โItโs none of my business, really.โ
Rachel scowled, annoyed. โThen what are you doing here, discussing Samantha and William with me?โ
Tyler stood up and leaned against the tree trunk, resting one leg over the other.
โWhat are you doing here, discussing whether Tammy likes me? You probably wish that Iโd say yes to her so that I wouldnโt break her fragile heart, right, Ms. Lloyd?โ
Rachel seldom heard someone speak so directly and sharply.
It was very unlike the sly and cunning old foxes at workโeach smarter than the other and more adept at making subtle, snide remarks.
Tyler, on the other hand, said the nastiest things that came from deep down in his heart.
โItโs fine if you want to sympathize with her. You can even offer her comfort, though she may not take it well.โ
Tylerโs deep, dark eyes were sharp and incisive, his voice icy cold, as his gaze swept past Tammy.
โSheโs looking our way right now. Do you want me to call her over?"
โNo need,โ Rachel said.
Tylerโs words struck her like lightning, but she recovered from it in the next instance.
How could someone as autocratic as him bother listening to other peopleโs opinions? He hated people interfering in his affairs. Rachel was the one who had crossed the line.
She felt the anger that was burning a second ago extinguished in that moment, and the blood gushing in her veins slowed down. What right did she have to expect that of Tyler?
Rachel sniffled, looking much less agitated than before.
โPardon me. I take back what I said earlier. Thank you for returning my phone, Mr. Hunt.โ
With that, she turned to leave.
Tylerโs eyes narrowed, but as he retracted his gaze, it landed on the oxygen can that Rachel left behind at the spot where she was sitting earlier.
Rachel was on her way to look for Cecilia when Tammy approached her.
โMs. Lloyd, Cecilia told me to tell you that something cropped up and she canโt handle it alone. I think a colleague was left behind somewhere.โ
Rachel didnโt think much of it, but knew that she had to take responsibility for anything that happened. After all, she was the person-in-charge alongside William and Tyler.
โCome on, bring me there,โ she said.
