Chapter 333

You can rest assured that I wonโ€™t say a word about tonightโ€™s events, to avoid harming the harmony between our two companies. And I could tell that Mr. Galatea was a shrewd man who knew how to weigh the pros and cons. I believe our cooperation this time will be very pleasant.

Matthew sat on the sofa, smiling at me, a playful smile still playing at the corner of his lips. He said, โ€œMs. Duffy is also a smart and interesting woman. If one day Ms. Duffy canโ€™t make it at Reynaldoโ€™s, remember to come find me.โ€ The door here is always open for Ms. Duffy.

โ€œOkay, thank you for appreciating Mr. Galatea.โ€

In the course of our conversation, I had already retreated to the gate. I quickly opened the door, and instantly, two bodyguards stood before me. I looked eagerly at Matthew. He raised his hand, gesturing for the bodyguards to let us pass. The two bodyguards quickly stepped back and returned my phone.

I didnโ€™t dare delay, and quickly walked outside. Matthewโ€™s soft laughter rang out behind me. โ€œYou know, why did Reynaldo divorce you in the first place? After all, interesting women like Ms. Duffy are quite rare.โ€

I paused and said softly, โ€œHe has someone else in his heart; divorcing me was only natural.โ€

Did Mr. Galatea never truly love anyone before? When Mr. Galatea falls in love one day, he will know, โ€œyou only want to marry and have children with the person you love, and build a family.โ€

โ€œWas it?โ€

Matthew chuckled noncommittally. I ignored him and walked quickly towards the courtyard gate.

Not until I stepped out of Matthewโ€™s villa yard did my tense nerves finally relax. I leaned weakly against a lamppost, shivering with cold. My shoes were lost when Matthewโ€™s men abducted me. My feet, stepping on the thin snow, felt as cold and painful as if cut by a knife. The pajamas under my down jacket were soaked with red wine, the cold seeping into my skin, chilling me to the bone. The cold wind blew mercilessly.

I tightened my down jacket and tremblingly turned on my phone. There were no notifications; no calls, no messages. In other words, Iโ€™d been gone so long, and Reynaldo hadnโ€™t even looked for me, hadnโ€™t considered that I might have been kidnapped. Oh, well. Heโ€™s probably at Kimberlyโ€™s side; why would he worry about me? Even if he called, wasnโ€™t it just for Kimberlyโ€™s painkillers?

I tugged stiffly at my lips, wanting to smile. My eyes welled up with tears. My vision blurred, showing only small snowflakes drifting in the cold wind. Under the dim yellow light, it was desolate and freezing. My feet were freezing.

I wiped away the tears, followed the navigation, and walked back the way I came. I dared not take the small paths, only walking on the brightly lit main roads. I intended to hail a taxi, but there were none. It was freezing, and not a single taxi was on the road. I couldnโ€™t find a hotel nearby to stay in; I didnโ€™t have my identification documents.
