Chapter 72: Be My Girlfriend
A man like Fraser had actually experienced his first time that day. Logically speaking, every woman in Havenbrook would have jumped at the chance to share his bed. The idea that it had been his first time seemed inconceivable.
Summerโs voice was barely above a whisper. โBut you wereโฆ incredible.โ
It didnโt feel like the first time. If anything, he seemed like the type of seasoned player who thrived in the game.
Fraserโs relaxed tone carried a trace of amusement. โEver considered the possibility that Iโve always been a fast learner?โ
The well-defined hand resting on Summerโs back suddenly exerted force, pulling her tightly against him. He lowered his head, his cool lips ghosting over her flushed cheek before trailing toward her ear. His voice was a sultry murmur. โBut itโs such an honor to earn your praise. Iโll make sure to improve next time.โ
His warm breath seared against her eardrum, sending heat surging through her veins. And with Fraser shamelessly spouting such words in broad daylight, Summerโs face erupted in crimson.
A startled gasp slipped out. โDonโt say thatโฆ Just donโt.โ
Fraserโs usual sharpness faded, his gaze turning liquid, impossibly gentle. He pressed a fingertip lightly against her trembling lips. Toying with her, he whispered, โKeep it down; my office isnโt soundproof. If you want to make noise, next time we can find somewhere more private, where you can be as loud as you want.โ
The presidentโs office isnโt soundproof? What is this? A paper-thin building? Summer wasnโt buying it, but the thought of anyone overhearing made her wary. She instinctively kept her voice down.
Frustrated, she pounded a small fist against his chest. The action was unintentionally coquettish, exactly the kind of thing a girlfriend would do when throwing a sulky tantrum. Realizing it too late, she quickly withdrew her hand. Seeing that Fraser didnโt seem to mind, she finally relaxed.
Fraser was impossible. Every time she was around him, he effortlessly pulled her into his rhythm. Noticing the teasing glint in Fraserโs eyes, Summer figured this was her chance to get to the real reason she was here.
Cautiously, she broached the topic. โCan you transfer the remaining 500 million to Stewart Group?โ
Maybe it was because theyโd already shared a bed a few times, but this time, Summer understood exactly what he meant. What a shameless man.
She hesitated, but theyโd already crossed that line. There was no point in pretending to be modest now. She was here for the money, after all. Rising on tiptoe, she brushed the lightest of kisses against his lips. Her ears burned. โIs that enough?โ
Fraserโs voice, deep and magnetic, held a teasing warmth. โSummer, one kiss for 500 million? What a bargain. How about I kiss you, and you pay me 500 million instead?โ
Summer scowled. He was playing with her. Irritated, she shoved him away. โForget it.โ
โYouโre giving up that easily?โ Fraserโs lips quirked.
Her temper flared. She pressed her lips into a thin line. โIf I donโt give up, am I just supposed to stand here and let you keep teasing me?โ
โMs. Stewart, thatโs no way to ask for a favor.โ
She met his gaze. โMr. Graham, youโre obviously toying with me. You promised Stewart Group a billion, but after transferring half, you stopped. Youโre forcing me to come to you.โ
Fraser showed no irritation. His voice was casual, light, laced with amusement. โSharp thinking today.โ
Summer met his gaze head-on. โWhatโs your real reason for doing this?โ
Fraserโs dark eyes locked onto hers, an unreadable intensity simmering beneath. โWhat do you think?โ
Maybe it was the weight of his gazeโtoo scorching, too directโbut Summerโs heart stuttered. She turned her head away, feigning indifference. โIโm not a mind reader. How should I know what youโre thinking?โ
Fraser studied her, silent. He had been waiting for her to come to him on her own. He had wanted to give her time. But then he saw that wedding dress photo; the possibility of her forgiving Trevor, of becoming his bride, had driven him to madness. The idea that this time might be falseโbut the next time could be realโwas unbearable. Fraser realized he could no longer wait. If she wouldnโt come to him willingly, then he would simply keep her by his side, until she had no choice but to fall for him.
His gaze darkened. His voice was low, certain. โSummer, I want you to be my girlfriend.โ
Her lashes quivered. Her fingers twitched at her sides. She wasnโt sure what she felt. But deep inside, something in her heart shuddered.
