Chapter 403: My Turn to Trust You
Summerโs letter continued:
I couldnโt even imagine what I would have become if you had ever stopped loving me.
You were probably reading this and thinking about yelling at meโWhat kind of crazy stuff was going through your head all day, huh? And by the time you got to this part, I bet you were upset. You probably felt guilty.
So fineโyour punishment was to treat me right for the rest of your life.
Fraser, I had something I wanted to tell you. You didnโt need to say sorry this time. This time, it was my turn to believe in you without question. It was my turn to forgive youโฆ
Every word in that letter felt like a bladeโsoft to the touch, but cutting deep. It tore into him again and again.
Fraser gripped her delicate hand in both of his, pressing it against his brow. Tears streamed out between his fingers without stopping.
While she slept, Summer felt a sudden warmth gathering in her palm. Her fingers twitched as she stirred, then her eyes slowly opened. The first thing she saw was Fraser sitting beside her. His eyes were bloodshot and dark, rimmed with red; his face was pale and hollow with exhaustion. He looked even more drained than someone who had just given birth.
When he saw her eyes open, something lit inside him. His voice shook as he whispered, โSummer, youโre awake.โ
A thought hit her all at once. She looked down at her belly. โThe babyโฆ where is she? Is she okay?โ She thought sheโd heard the doctor say it was a girl before she passed out.
Fraser swallowed hard. โOur daughterโs safe.โ
Summer let out a breath, her voice soft. โGood. I canโt wait to meet her.โ
Fraser didnโt move. He just kept staring at her, his eyes deep and unreadable, like there were a thousand things he wanted to say but couldnโt.

โPain?โ Summerโs nose tingled; her voice came out soft and fragile. โIt hurts.โ
Fraser opened his mouth, but his voice cracked before it came out. โIโm sorry. I was too late.โ
Summer met his eyes with a gentle look and shook her head. โFraser, you were the one who gave me strength,โ she said. You were the reason I could be brave enough to bring our daughter into the world.
Fraser leaned in, lowered his head, and kissed her lips. It was a kiss unlike any he had given beforeโquiet, reverent, full of love. A tear slipped from his face and landed softly on her lashes.
Summer blinked, her bright eyes glimmering. Slowly, a smile formed at the corners of her mouthโpure, content, and full of joy.
At the door, Julia and Yvette stood with the baby in their arms. The moment they saw what was happening inside, they both burst into tears.
