Chapter 385: A Proposal Lit in Neon
Summerโs assistant replied quickly with a โGot it.โ Now that everything was settled, Summer leaned back in the passenger seat and stopped worrying. The setting sun cast a golden glow as the car drove steadily down the main road, then turned onto a side street. Summer watched the sceneryโreflections of plane trees lining the sidewalkโand suddenly felt something was off. This roadโฆ isnโt this the way to Summer Hotel?
Just as the thought struck her, the cityscape outside the window transformed in an instant, as if by magic. The once-ordinary high-rises lit up in a flash of color and neon. Across the towering buildings, bright letters sparkled: โMarry me, Summer!โ The words looked straight out of a dramaโso dazzling, so surreal. Yet the car didnโt speed up or slow down; it kept gliding forward with calm steadiness.
Inside, Summer stared out the window in disbelief, watching those glowing words flicker again and again. Every time she saw her nameโโSummerโโher heart trembled. Is this for me? But she could only think of one man capable of pulling off something like thisโFraser. Her voice was shaky. โYvette, Iโฆโ
Yvette smiled from the driverโs seat. โSummer, weโre here.โ The car stopped at the entrance of Summer Hotel. The entire front of the hotel had been transformed into a sea of flowersโroses, peonies, and climbing vines overflowing like waves. And that wasnโt all. The neon lights across the building shone even brighter. From the rooftop down, enormous letters cascaded like a waterfall, โMarry Me!โ, lighting up the evening skyline of Havenbrook.
The sight was so grand, crowds had gathered outside, drawn by the spectacle. People were gasping, taking photos, trying to capture every second on their phones. Security guards stood around the hotel perimeter, keeping things in order. Not far away, Fraser stood tall and poised. He wore a white suitโsomething he had never worn before. In his hands, he held a bouquet of soft lavender. The muted purple flowers complemented the crisp white of his suit, making him look impossibly noble, like someone untouchable.
When he saw Summer appear, he began walking toward her, each step steady, elegant, deliberate. Then, above him in the sky, dozens of drones took formation, shifting in perfect unison to create a massive heart. Inside it, her nameโโSummerโโsparkled in midair. The crowd erupted in gasps and cheers.
โOh my, this is so romantic! Who is this guy? Must be filthy richโlighting up the whole city just to propose!โ
โYeah, I drove all the way from the edge of Havenbrook just now. The lights started back thereโit all led here.โ
โMust be the owner of Summer Hotel. You know what this hotel means? I heard it was built just for the woman heโs proposing to today.โ
โThen the girl must be that one over thereโsheโs gorgeous.โ
โNo no, did you see the guy? He looks like he walked straight out of a fairy tale.โ
The noise and chatter swallowed everything. And thatโs when Summer realized this was the โbig life eventโ Yvette had mentioned. Fraser was proposing to her.
For the first time, Summerโs palms broke out in a nervous sweat. Her blood seemed to boil, surging with heat. She started to panic. Itโs my first proposal. I have no idea what to do. What do people even do in this situation? She looked down at herselfโtoday of all days, sheโd worn a loose, dark blue dress. She hadnโt even done her makeup properly.
Fraser stopped in front of her, eyes black as obsidian, gaze filled with surging affectionโfor the woman standing right in front of him. Heโd always been a low-key man. The Graham Group got countless interview requests every year, and he rarely accepted any. In his mind, a proposal was supposed to happen in some spontaneous momentโheโd just look at her and say, โMarry me?โ Looking at him with misty eyes. Heโd pull her close and demand, โBe mine.โ
None of those ideas looked anything like this. But even if this was the most clichรฉ, over-the-top proposal in the book, Fraser still wanted her to experience it. Just once. Because he never wanted her to have any regrets.
Not far away, Xavier had pulled Yvette aside after she got out of the car. Seeing the tears glistening in her eyes, he said, โIf you want something like this, I can make it happen for you too.โ The moment the words left his mouth, he froze. Heโd always thought heโd be against doing something like thisโฆ but somehow, the promise came out so easily.
Yvette wiped the corners of her eyes. โItโs not thatโIโm just a little emotional. Seeing her this happy. I really am happy for her. But watching her step into a whole new chapter of lifeโฆ it kind of makes me want to cry.โ
