Chapter 329: Proposals Gone Wild
Fraser, dressed casually, squatted, tossing a plastic ball for the fluffy Pudding. Each time Fraser raised his hand, he threw the ball far into the distance. The ball ended up in some forgotten corner, but after a while, Pudding always managed to return, precisely, ball in mouth.
From the corner of his eye, Fraser saw Xavier approaching and casually stood up, walking over to sit on a garden chair. As Pudding came back with the ball, Xavier, carrying a toolkit, opened it and pulled out a stethoscope. He crouched down and expertly began a basic checkup on Pudding. Seeing this, Pudding dropped the plastic ball on the lawn and obediently stayed still for Xavierโs examination. Once Xavier finished, Pudding immediately ran back and settled next to Fraserโs leg.
โHeโs healthy, just his stomachโs a bit weak; heโs getting old after all. You might want to ease up on the intense activities.โ
Pudding seemed to understand and barked loudly, as if to deny his age.
Xavier clicked his tongue, โCan you believe it? Iโve known Pudding this long, and heโs still like this with me?โ After all, he was the hospital director and had been moonlighting as a vet for nearly ten years. This ungrateful dog really didnโt know how good he had it.
Fraserโs thin lips curled slightly, โMaybe itโs because youโre not exactly charming.โ
Me, not charming? In Havenbrook, who doesnโt know I am the most likable? Not to mention this Pudding, who only has eyes for its master. That really hurts!
Fraser lounged back in the chair, casually propping up a leg and reached down to pet Pudding at his feet. โDid you hear that? Youโre old, buddy. Tone it down a bit, will you? Donโt always snatch up the ball expecting me to play.โ
Pudding lifted his proud head and turned away. Xavier couldnโt help but laugh. โI have to say, heโs a lot like you; just as proud.โ
The two men sat on one side of the garden, against a backdrop of colorful flower bouquets, looking every bit the part of handsome figures in a portrait.
Xavier picked a grape. โDid you call me over just to check on Pudding?โ That dog, Pudding, was Fraserโs pampered pet. Not one, but two dedicated dog nannies, and no less than three vets just for him.
Fraser sipped his coffee, gazing at the fluffy Pudding playing in the distance, and said deliberately, โIโm going to propose to Summer.โ
Xavier was stunned for a moment. Then he asked, โArenโt you guys already planning to get married? How come you havenโt proposed yet?โ That comment earned him a chilling look from Fraser.
Xavier chuckled nervously, taking a sip of his coffee, โI was just curious, thatโs all, haha.โ
Fraserโs eyes were deep, his fingers slowly rubbing the coffee cup, โYouโve had quite a few girlfriends. Whatโs a proposal supposed to be like?โ
Xavier, who had just taken a sip of coffee, choked upon hearing this. โWhat do you mean Iโve had quite a few girlfriends?โ
Fraser gave him a sharp look, โIsnโt that the case?โ
Xavier straightened up, โI might have had one or two, but Iโve never proposed!โ He was a committed bachelor, and any marriage would be an arranged one by his family; why would he need to propose?
Fraser, ever so serious, said, โYou must at least know something about it. Iโm giving you this chance to offer me a suggestion.โ
Xavier was speechless. Giving me a chance? Wasnโt it just that Fraser, the privileged bachelor, was out of ideas? Right! He, this naive boy, had only ever been with Summer.
Xavier adjusted his tie, โThen Iโll just have to force myself to use my clever and romantic brain.โ
โUnderwater proposals are all the rage these days. They involve diving down, the guy pulling a ring from the coral reefs, and holding up a sign that reads โMarry me?โ in a romantic setting. Picture the enchanting underwater scene, a once-in-a-lifetime thrill; Summer would definitely say yes.โ
Xavier got so carried away talking about it, he almost wanted to stage a proposal himself. Thinking of whom he would propose to, a certain womanโs image flashed through his mind. Thatโs just spooky!
The next second, he looked up to see Fraserโs icy gaze on him, his voice somber, โYou want myโฆ?โ
Xavier smacked his forehead, โOh, I forgot Summerโs pregnant! Sorry, didnโt think about that; next idea.โ
Xavier kept racking his brain for those elusive romantic ideas.
