Chapter 266: Lucasโs Confession
Summer asked, โWhy did you pick this place?โ
Lucas thought, Is she still uncomfortable because of the memory of booking this restaurant for her ex-boyfriend?
โMy apologies. I just thought this was where we first met. If it makes you uncomfortable, we can change the place.โ
Summer waved her hand. โItโs okay, itโs all in the past.โ She had completely moved on from Trevor.
Soon, the waiter brought out plate after plate of exquisitely prepared food. The smell of fish made Summer nauseous, and she instinctively gagged. Now, my sensitivity to smells had improved, but seafood, especially fish, was still unbearable.
Lucas looked concerned. โIs there something you donโt like?โ
Summer swallowed hard. โI need to use the bathroom first.โ
After composing herself in the bathroom, Summer slowly walked out to find Lucas waiting at the door, holding out a warm, damp towel. She took it and wiped her hands before smiling faintly.
โMr. Lucas, has anyone ever told you how thoughtful you are?โ
Lucas looked at her with soft eyes, his tone playful. โI rarely dine with women, and men certainly donโt compliment me on my thoughtfulness. Youโre the first.โ
When Summer returned to the table, she noticed that all the seafood and fish dishes had been cleared away. This manโs powers of observation are unnervingly keen.
โBoth times weโve eaten together, youโve had this reaction. Is it stomach trouble? I know an excellent traditional doctor who can help.โ
โNo need. I just have an aversion to the smell of fish.โ I couldnโt say it was because of the pregnancy.
The meal was pleasant enough. Lucas recommended three potential candidates to the Stewart group. As they neared the end, Lucas poured Summer a glass of warm water and casually asked, โSummer, why leave Havenbrook? If somethingโs bothering you, maybe I can help.โ
โMr. Lucas, you have helped me many times,โ
Lucasโ deep, gentle eyes held hers, his lips curving into a tender smile. โYouโre being too formal. Iโve asked you before not to call me โMr. Lucas.โ If you donโt mind, you can call me Lucas.โ
Summer hesitated. Iโd rarely met men like him: cultured, refined, distinguished in manner. Since Iโd met Lucas, heโd treated everyone with the same courtesy and humility, never looking down on others despite his status. I hadnโt thought much of it before. But a womanโs intuition pricked me.
Chapter 266: Lucasโs Confession
Lucas studied her intently. โSummer, I like you a lot. Would you give me a chance?โ
Summerโs grip on her glass tightened. She bit her lip. โIโm sorry.โ
Lucas nodded and smiled gracefully. โDonโt worry. I didnโt mean to pressure you. When I heard you were leaving, I couldnโt hold back. If it makes things uncomfortable, just pretend I never said it.โ
When dinner ended, Summer stood awkwardly. โI should get back.โ
Lucas chuckled warmly. โYouโre not going to avoid me after this confession, are you? That would be unwise; especially since she still needed his help. Summer relented. Not wanting to create tension: โAlright.โ
Hidden in a shady corner, Sienna watched the couple with venomous eyes. How impressive, Summer is already luring another man. Letโs see how popular you remain after I deliver you to Philipโs bed. For days, Sienna had schemed ways to lure Summer out, but with her number blocked, no amount of feigned goodwill worked. Stalking her was the only option left.
The Dynamo pulled up to the gates just as Julia returned home. Lucas got out with Summer and greeted her politely. โGood evening, Madam Julia.โ
Julia studied the man in the gray suit, his upright posture, his handsome yet gentle features, and his refined demeanor. โAnd you are?โ
Summer introduced, โThis is Mr. Lucas. I asked for his help in recommending a professional manager for this evening.โ
Lucas retrieved a box of premium supplements from the car. โMadam Julia, I wasnโt expecting to see you today, so I only brought a small gift.โ
