Chapter 200: I Need to See Fraser
Sienna kept shaking her head, eyes filling with tears, panic written all over her face.
Summer inhaled deeply, calm to the point of being cold. โWhatever you did for me in the pastโweโre square now. From today on, I donโt owe you anything.โ
Sienna begged. โSummer, please. I messed up. Just give me another chance.โ
Summer didnโt say another word. She threw the rest of the files in her hand at Sienna and walked out without looking back. Yvette gave Sienna one last lookโsharp, scornfulโthen grabbed her designer bag from the table and headed after Summer without another word.
Sienna watched them go, her eyes dark with fury. She muttered under her breath, โWhy? I only talked to Fraser for a few minutes. He didnโt even flirt back. And now theyโre acting like Iโve committed a crime. Friends? Please. Theyโve never treated me like a real friend. Itโs all been fake from the start.โ
Merry stood frozen, her expression unreadable. By all accounts, she shouldโve sided with Sienna. She was the first employee Sienna ever hired. Theyโd worked closely for almost a year. If anyone owed her loyalty, it shouldโve been Merry. But she couldnโt do it.
Merry bit down on her lip, then spoke quietly but clearly. โIโm sorry, Sienna. I canโt keep working here. Iโm quitting.โ
Sienna whipped around, stunned. โMerryโweโve been building Aspira together for a whole year. Youโre really quitting over Summer?โ
Merryโs gaze didnโt waver. โThis isnโt about Summer. I may be young, but I know whatโs right and wrong. And I donโt want to work for someone like this.โ
She turned and walked out without looking back. A moment later, the sound of things being thrown, breaking, and shattering filled the office as Sienna lost control and tore the room apart.
Summer made her way down to the parking garage and climbed into the car. She sank into the driverโs seat, leaning back, with no strength left in her body. Her eyes were dullโblank, like sheโd turned off completely.
The passenger side door opened a moment later. Yvette got in without a word. She glanced over at Summer, whose face was pale and frozen with shock.
โSummer, I never wanted you to find out about something this disgusting. But maybe itโs better you did. People like that donโt deserve to be in our lives.โ
Summer gave a quiet hum in response and said nothing else. Silence settled over the car.
Yvette didnโt push. She knew Summer was sitting in the quiet, trying to absorb it all. So she stayed put, just keeping her company.
Eventually, Summer broke the silence. Her voice was scratchy and low, โYvetteโฆ am I stupid?โ
Yvette felt a small wave of relief. She was talking again. She was coming back.
Summer let out a long breath. โI just never imagined Sienna would turn into this. I was always trying to do right by her. And now? I just feel like such an idiot.โ
Yvette reached across the center console and wrapped her hand around Summerโs, holding it tightly. โYouโre not an idiot. Youโre just a good person. Being used by someone doesnโt make you wrongโit just means she didnโt deserve you.โ
Summerโs eyes started to water. She looked over at Yvette, โThanks, Yvette. At least I still have you.โ
โCome on now. You know you mean the world to me. I just want to see you happy.โ
Yvette paused for a beat, then said with quiet certainty, โThatโs why I need you to knowโFraser really does have feelings for you. Iโm sure of it now.โ
Suddenly, Summer remembered what Fraser had said the day before: โCome to my office and Iโll tell you who my first love is.โ
Yvetteโs words stirred something deep in her chest. Summer felt this sharp, unshakable urge rise up inside her. She needed to knowโwhy hadnโt Fraser said anything when Sienna came on to him? Was it because he didnโt want her to get hurt? And if soโฆ why was that? Why would it matter to him?
Her heart pounded in her chest, like something big was on the edge of breaking free. She bit down on her lip. โYvetteโฆ I need to go see Fraser.โ
She said her goodbyes, then stepped on the gas. The car sliced through the road, fast and focused, heading straight for the Caham Group headquarters.
Summerโs thoughts were scattered like wind-blown leavesโlight, unsettled. It felt like checking her SAT score back in high school, the way her heart raced while she braced for what she didnโt want to know. She needed clarity. She needed to know where she stood with Fraser.
As she approached the last turn before the building, the carโs phone lit up and started ringing. She glanced at the screenโit was from her family. After a second of hesitation, she answered.
Zoeyโs voice came through, panicked. โMs. Stewart, pleaseโyou need to come home. Mrs. Stewart just attempted suicide.โ
