Chapter 63
Even though Josiah said that, he still walked closer and picked Sienna up in his arms. He didnโt forget to remind her, โLean on me, donโt fall!โ
Sienna quietly rested against his chest. He smiled with amusement. He found Sienna was being quite well-behaved. He carried her to the car and buckled her seatbelt.
Sienna opened her mouth, her voice hoarse. โWhat do you want to say?โ Josiah narrowed his eyes suspiciously. โDonโt tell me you think Iโm interfering too much and that you donโt need my help.โ
โNo,โ Sienna paused and shook her head. She really didnโt think that way. She had been annoyed by him before, but to be fair, tonight he did save her and help her. She lowered her gaze, speaking slowly and softly. โThank you so much.โ
Suddenly, a spark of light flashed in Josiahโs eyes, and his heart skipped a beat. With a smile, he said, โWell, it seems you do have some good intentions. Alright, the doctor said you shouldnโt talk, so stop for now. I understand how you feel.โ
He walked around the car, got in, and drove her home. In the next couple of days, Sienna wouldnโt be able to work. Henry approved a two-day leave for her.
The next day, Josiah first went to the nursing home to visit Miranda.
โOh, youโre here? Perfect timing,โ Miranda, concerned about Siennaโs boyfriend, immediately asked Josiah, โHave you found out anything? What kind of person is Siennaโs boyfriend?โ
โGrandma,โ Josiahโs expression was complex, a blend of relief and hidden irritation. โDonโt worry about it, itโs over.โ
โOver?โ Miranda was surprised. โWhy is it over? Sienna said he was very good to her.โ
โGood?โ Josiah sneered dismissively. โHeโs old enough to be her father! Heโs got kids.โ
โNo way!โ Miranda interrupted Josiah before he could finish, her expression serious as she firmly objected, โSienna is being unreasonable. With her qualifications, how can she choose someone like that? Sheโs a girl from the Flynn family; surely suitors are not in short supply.โ
Seeing that Miranda shared his opinion, Josiah felt quite pleased. โExactly, I donโt agree either.โ
โAlright,โ Miranda advised. โMake sure you handle this well. Does Sienna listen to you? If not, should I talk to her?โ
โNo need,โ Josiah reassured Miranda. โJust focus on recovering. Leave it to me. Itโs all sorted out. Theyโve already broken up.โ
โReally?โ Upon hearing this, Miranda sighed with relief. โThatโs good. If Sienna listens to you, sheโs not too naive after all.โ
Josiah had no opinion on this. She was really stubborn. If he hadnโt used a bit of strategy, she would have certainly been headed for disaster.
โJosiah,โ Miranda advised, โYou handled this well. In the future, make sure to look after Sienna, just as you did this time.โ
โOkay, Grandma.โ After leaving the nursing home, Josiah drove to 12th Avenue, with a trunk full of items Miranda wanted to give to Sienna. This gave him a good reason to visit.
When there was a knock on the door, Sienna was making oatmeal. All day sheโd been drinking it because her throat hurt so much that even swallowing was painful. She had no choice but to have this, and she couldnโt have too much, as it would be too thick to swallow.
Hearing the knock, she ran to open the door, puzzled to see Josiah carrying bags.
โMove aside!โ Josiah said loudly as he walked in, placing the items on the shoe cabinet by the entrance. Seeing Sienna staring blankly, he frowned. โWhy are you looking at me like that?โ
Sienna pointed at the things he brought.
โGrandma asked me to bring these over,โ Josiah coughed awkwardly. โOtherwise, do you think Iโd want to come to this dump? Thereโs not even a place to stand here.โ
Saying this, he had already walked in and casually plopped himself down on the sofa, picked up a cup from the table, and drank.
Sienna wanted to stop him, but she was too late. He had already drunk from her cup.
As Josiah put down the cup, he realized what he had done, but he didnโt think he was wrong. Instead, he pointed at Sienna. โThere arenโt any other cups. What do you expect me to drink from? You canโt expect me to come all the way here and not even have a sip of water, right?โ
Sienna bowed her head and didnโt say a word.
โYouโฆโ Josiah was about to say more when there was another knock at the door. Both of them looked up at the same time, a bit puzzled about who it could be. Sienna went to open the door, and to her surprise, it was Ryan standing there. She opened her mouth, her voice hoarse. โMr. Jones.โ
Ryan smiled awkwardly, noticing the bandage on her neck; his expression darkened. โSorry for causing you harm.โ
Sienna covered her neck, shaking her head. She stepped aside, trying to invite Ryan in.
โNo need,โ Understanding her intention, Ryan shook his head with a smile. โI wonโt come in. I just have a few words to say, and then Iโll leave.โ
โAlright,โ Sienna nodded blankly. She had a pretty good idea of what he was going to say. Their affair was never meant to be exposed. Now his daughter knew and had already caused a commotion. If they continued, his son would probably cause a scene.
โSienna, Iโm sorry,โ Ryanโs voice was somewhat hoarse. โRegarding usโfor now, letโs put it aside.โ
Just as she expected. Sienna paused, her long lashes trembling slightly, and nodded. โAlright.โ Actually, he didnโt need to make a special trip to tell her. In their kind of relationship, there was no question of him wronging her.
Although he couldnโt become her backer, Sienna still admired and respected Ryan, just like he did her. Sienna covered her throat and tried to speak, โItโs okay, I donโt blame you.โ
โSienna,โ Ryan gazed deeply at her. The truth was, he still couldnโt bear to leave her. So, he attempted to suggest, โWhy donโt you wait for me? Wait until the situation at my home calms down, and then weโโ
โOh, who do we have here?โ Unexpectedly, a man walked out from inside. He was tall, at least a head taller than Ryan, and just standing there, he had an air of authority. Even without speaking, his presence was hard to ignore. Then, Ryan saw the manโs face clearly. He was shocked, unable to believe. โM-Mr. Flynn?โ
โYes,โ Josiah gave a slight nod, a restrained polite smile on his lips. โMr. Jones, we meet again.โ
โYouโฆ Heโฆโ Ryan looked at Josiah and Sienna. โAre you twoโฆ?โ He wondered why Josiah would be here. He once heard that Josiah had once supported Sienna at Maze; Josiah might be back at it again.
Josiah didnโt know what Ryan was thinking, nor did he care. He took a bag out of his pocket and tossed it to Ryan. โYouโre right on time. Hereโs your stuff back!โ
