Chapter 40
โToday, Mr. Flynn didnโt show up, and I was a little worriedโฆโ Henry waved his hand, clearly agitated. โBut look at this! I was worrying for nothing. Even though Mr. Flynn didnโt come, heโs still thinking about you.โ
โIs that so?โ Sienna smiled, but inwardly, she found it ridiculous. When she was his wife, he hadnโt even cared to look at her. Now that she wore a mask, he seemed genuinely intrigued.
Who would have thought Josiah would develop an interest in a dancer? She wondered what his reaction would be once he saw the face behind the mask. Disappointment? Or perhaps heโd fly into a rage? Either way, it probably wouldnโt be good.
It was Monday again, Siennaโs day off. She had contacted Miranda earlier, letting her know she would come over for company and even stay the night. Miranda was thrilled and readily agreed.
Early that morning, Sienna packed her bag and headed over. Miranda had just woken up and was surprised to see Sienna so early. โSienna, youโre here so early! Youโre young; donโt you want to sleep in?โ
โI have plenty of time to sleep. This day doesnโt matter to me,โ Sienna said, sitting down by the bed. Seeing Miranda in good spirits, she finally spoke, having considered her words for days.
โGrandma,โ Sienna took Mirandaโs hand gently. โI have something to tell you. Please promise me you wonโt get emotional; these are my heartfelt words.โ
โOh?โ Seeing her so serious made Miranda smile. โAlright, since these are your heartfelt words, Iโm all ears.โ
โThen Iโll begin.โ
โGo ahead.โ
Siennaโs eyes reddened slightly. โIโm really grateful to you for adopting me all those years ago. If it werenโt for you, I probably wouldnโt have been able to keep dancing, and I might have been forced into the real world too soon.โ
She barely managed to get the words out before choking up.
โOh, child.โ Miranda was moved. โTo me, youโre just like Howard and Josiah.โ
โYouโve always been so kind to me,โ Sienna bit her lip, gathering her courage. โWhy donโt you be kind to me just once more?โ
โWhat?โ Miranda looked confused, not grasping her meaning. Thinking Sienna might be asking for a favor, she nodded eagerly. โAlright, what is it? Whatever it is, I will definitely agree.โ
โThen, I need to thank you in advance,โ Sienna took a deep breath. โPlease agree to let us get a divorce.โ
โWhat?โ Miranda was shocked, staring at her in disbelief. โSienna, do you know what youโre saying!โ
โYes, I know,โ Sienna nodded through her tears. โI used to really like Josiah. I liked him a lotโฆ That was the truth, and there was no denying it. But I donโt like him anymore.โ
Behind her, the bathroom door was slightly ajar. Josiah had just stepped out, but upon hearing those words, he stopped dead in his tracks.
โSienna!โ Miranda tightened her grip on Siennaโs hand.
โMoreover,โ Sienna felt a dull ache in her chest as she continued, โyou know he doesnโt like me. He never did. The one he likes is Yvette, after all.โ Miranda froze, her mouth slightly open, realizing she had no counterargument. โYouโฆ youโฆโ So she had always known!
Sienna cried silently, tears spilling down her cheeks. โI just want to find someone who really likes me, to experience what itโs like to be loved and cared for. Please, show me the same compassion and help me out here.โ
Tears filled Mirandaโs eyes. โI failed you, Sienna.โ
The fact that her two grandsons had fallen for the same woman wasnโt a secret in Jelacrity; it had become the subject of much gossip. To be honest, Miranda had always hoped for Sienna and Josiah to end up together; part of it was affection for Sienna, but she also had her own selfish reasons.
