Chapter 377
Conner sighed, a bitter smile playing on his lips. "But Sienna, I didn't choose my family."
Sienna kept her eyes fixed on his face. He seemed genuinely remorseful and troubled.
"Come with me," Sienna said, turning and walking inside.
Lucas had already arranged everything with the lab doctor. The hospital had Joyce's samples; they only needed to draw Conner's blood. Sienna didn't completely trust Conner, but for Joyce's sake, even if he had ulterior motives, she had to try.
Once inside the lab, a nurse drew Conner's blood.
"Thank you," Conner said, pressing a cotton ball to the puncture wound. He looked at Sienna and asked, "When will we get the results?"
"Tomorrow," Sienna replied. Thanks to Lucas, they'd expedited the tests.
"That's pretty quick," Conner nodded. "Give me a call once you have the results."
Sienna pursed her lips. "If, and I mean it, the match is suitableโฆ"
"Then we schedule the surgery," Conner smiled, knowing what she was about to ask. "Why else would I be here?"
Sienna frowned slightly and nodded. After a brief internal struggle, she said solemnly, "Thank you."
Conner's smile turned somber. "Sienna, please don't thank me. I don't deserve it. Everything I have now belongs to you. I owe you more than I can repay. I just hope the match works. Don't thank me; I'm just trying to make amends." Sienna felt a mix of emotions, leaving her speechless. If he truly meant what he said, Conner was a good man.
After leaving the hospital, Sienna and Conner parted ways.
Sienna pulled out her phone. It was clean, devoid of messages. Josiah hadn't contacted her. Neither had Howard. She wondered, What's going on with him? Where is he?
For the past few days, the rain in Jeiacrity had been unrelenting. By nightfall, it was pouring harder.
Listening to the rain, Sienna put Joyce to sleep, then went to the living room for water.
A distant rumble of thunder broke the stillness. The loud thunderclap startled Sienna, making her hand tremble and water spill from the glass. An indescribable feeling washed over her. Without a second thought, she set the glass down and rushed to the window, pulling back the curtain.
The world outside was dark, the shadows of trees dancing in the storm. Sienna thought she saw a faint light flickering. Her heart pounded as she quickly grabbed an umbrella, yanked the door open, and dashed outside.
Under the pouring rain, Sienna walked into the yard, her voice mingling with the wind and rain. "Josiah! Josiah, is that you?"
She looked around frantically, but the faint light was gone. Did I imagine it? she wondered. She called out a few more times, but there was no reply. Just as she was about to turn back, she heard someone call her name. It was definitely Josiah's voice.
She spun around, directing her gaze toward the sound. There, under the sycamore tree, stood Josiah, tall and smiling. She'd seen him smile before, but right now, his smile seemed more sorrowful than joyful.
Sienna took a few steps forward, holding up her umbrella. "It's really you?"
"Yes, it's me," Josiah nodded, still smiling. He was soaked to the bone.
Howard's deep gaze settled on her. "So, Josiah told you."
"What?" Sienna was completely confused.
He told her he wasn't Josiah. A wild thought flashed through Sienna's mind. Howard confirmed her suspicions. "Literally, the person you call 'Josiah' is not my real brother."
