Chapter 316

Josiah was taken aback. He knew this situation all too well. "But, Howard," Josiah pointed toward the adjoining room, "don't forget that Rosie is married."

"Married? Hmph," Howard scoffed. "That jerk of a husband she has might as well not exist."

Stepping into someone else's marriage wasn't something to be proud of. If it weren't for Daniel's deplorable behavior, he wouldn't even consider Rosie.

Howard continued, "Next year, once Rosie has her surgery and her eyesight is restored, we'll move forward with her divorce from Daniel."

Josiah blinked in realization; it seemed Howard had been planning this all along. But he couldn't help but whisper, "Howard, are you sure Rosie will agree?"

"Hmm," Howard hesitated. "Why wouldn't she? Getting away from that abusive, cheating husband and reuniting with Bobbyโ€”isn't that the best home for her?"

Once Josiah left the nursing home, he headed to the office. He felt a twinge of suspicion; it was unlike Andy to give up so easily.

Arriving at the office, he checked his schedule. It wasn't too packed, so he had enough time to pick up Sienna from the film set. As expected, things wrapped up before five o'clock.

Josiah grabbed his keys and phone, put on his coat, and was about to leave when his phone buzzed. An international number lit up the screen.

Josiah's brow furrowed as he answered. "Hello, who is this?"

"Hello, is this Mr. Josiah Flynn? This is the Lacustria embassy."

Lacustriaโ€”Yvette was in Lacustria.

"Yes, this is," Josiah's voice tightened. "What's going on!"

"Do you know Ms. Yvette? She has encountered some problems here and requested assistance from the embassy. Your number was provided to us."

Josiah felt a lump in his throat. "What happened?"

"She was a victim of theft at her residence, resulting in financial loss, and her passport was also lost. Additionally, she seems to be somewhat emotionally unstable."

"Alright, I get it," Josiah said seriously. "Can I have a word with her?"

"Hold onโ€ฆ" The person on the other end seemed to walk away, briefly disconnecting. Then, they returned the call.

"Josiah," Yvette's voice, sharp and panicked, cut through.

"Yvette," Josiah tried to soothe her. "You're safe now. There's no need to be scared."

"Yeah, I know," she replied.

"Okay," Josiah pressed on. "Can you tell me who broke into your place?"

It was someone from Jelucrity, Yvette confirmed, her voice unwavering. "I was asleep in my bedroom when I heard a noise. Before he left, he told me to pass along a message to you."

"What message!"

"He saidโ€ฆ 'Mr. Flynn, you're quite good at hiding things.'"

As Yvette spoke, Josiah could hear her trembling. "Josiah, do you think they've figured it out?"

Josiah's expression darkened. It had to be someone from the Evans family. If they couldn't get to him, they'd target those close to him. The Evans family was ruthless; they wouldn't hesitate to hurt even their own, let alone Yvette, who was indirectly caught in the chaos.

"Yvette, I'll be there as soon as I can. In the meantime, reach out to the embassy and the police if anything comes up, okay!"

After hanging up, Josiah checked the time and rushed to the garage. He sped off toward the film set. On the way, he called Howard.

As the year-end approached, the film crew held the final script reading before officially starting production after the new year. Once the meeting concluded, everyone began to leave the conference room.

"Mr. Flynn!"

"Mr. Flynn!"

Josiah replied, standing at the door, smiling at everyone who greeted him.

Sienna, carrying her bag, caught sight of Josiah surrounded by the crowd. With a glance, she quickly turned away, trying to walk past.

"Sienna!"

Josiah called out, breaking away from the group to follow her. He leaned down, grinning. "Why are you leaving? Didn't you see me?"

Feeling defeated, she replied honestly, "I did see you, but that's exactly why I walked faster."

"Wow, so harsh," Josiah said with a chuckle. "Come on, let's go. The car's parked out front, and I don't want it towed."

He half-pulled her toward the car, heading to the Sunshine Neighborhood. Sienna leaned back against the seat, gazing silently out the window.

"It's about time for Joyce to head back, right?" Josiah observed, glancing at the gray sky. "The weather's not great todayโ€”too windy."

"Yeah," Sienna mumbled.

"What do you feel like eating tonight?" Josiah asked, attempting to change the subject. "I hear Tara's cooking is pretty good."

She turned sharply, frowning. "You're not trying to weasel your way into her cooking again, are you!"

Josiah paused, feigning innocence. "Why are you so defensive? Are you afraid I won't like the food?"

Sienna was at a loss for words. This guy had the thickest skin she'd ever seen.

"I'm busy today. Maybe next time," Sienna replied curtly.

Josiah's smile faded, becoming serious. "Sienna, I'll take you to Sunshine Neighborhood in a bit. I need to head out of the country."

Heading abroad made Sienna pause. It was far; she might not make it back to Jelucrity by the end of the year.

He continued carefully, "I have to go to Lacustria. Yvette ran into some trouble; her place was robbed."

Hearing this, Sienna blinked, only mildly surprised. Her impression of Yvette was that she often found herself in troubleโ€”big or small. And the Flynn brothers would always handle everything for her. Yvette had been unusually quiet lately, which felt off.

Noticing Sienna's calm demeanor, Josiah felt a flicker of anxiety.

"Originally, it should be Howard going, but he just woke up from a coma. He can't fly long distances yet."

"Right," Sienna nodded. "Then it should be you who goes."

Josiah scrutinized her face but saw no dissatisfaction. He forced a smile, marinated in bitterness. Back when she'd made a fuss over Yvette, it had bothered him. Now that she wasn't, he felt oddly uneasy.

The car fell silent as it entered Sunshine Neighborhood and parked in front of the apartment building. Josiah got out with Sienna. The cold wind tousled her hair.

"I'm leaving now."

Josiah shifted, blocking the wind for her. "I'll be back on New Year's Eveโ€”I promised Joyce I'd make it." He looked at her, stepping back as he smiled into the wind. "I'm off, Sienna. Wait for me."

Once he left, the wind rushed back. Sienna touched her hair, an inexplicable sense of unease creeping in. Josiahโ€ฆ he won't run into trouble, will he?
