Chapter 313
โItโs like this,โ the security guard explained. โWe noticed someone acting suspiciously, loitering near the Bentley for a while. We apprehended him and wanted to ask if you recognize him. If not, should we call the police?โ
Tara, unsure what to do, turned to Josiah, who had already approached. โMr. Flynn, what do you think?โ she asked.
โIโll handle it,โ Josiah said.
โAlright,โ Tara replied.
Josiah addressed the guards. โCould you show me a photo of the person?โ
โSure,โ one guard produced his phone, displaying a picture. โHere he is. Do you recognize him?โ
Josiah examined the unfamiliar face, then photographed it with his own phone. Returning the phone, he said, โThank you for your trouble. I donโt recognize him; let him go.โ
โLet him go?โ the guard asked, surprised.
โYes,โ Josiah nodded. The guardsโ inquiry indicated the car was unharmed; otherwise, they would have gone straight to the police.
โWell, alright then,โ the guards said, puzzled but accepting the car ownerโs decision. โSorry to bother you,โ one added.
โTake your time,โ Josiah replied.
After dismissing the guards, Josiah returned to the dining table. Sienna, having overheard, felt uneasy about his nonchalant attitude. โJust let him go? No need to call the police? Not long ago, you were injured by someone with a machete.โ
โCalling the police would be useless,โ Josiah said with a smirk. โHe hasnโt done anything, and even in the station, he wouldnโt say a word.โ
Sienna, seeing his calm demeanor, asked, โArenโt you worried?โ
Josiah paused, then nodded. โWorried, yes, but worrying wonโt help. Life goes on.โ He looked down at Joyce, her face smeared with oil, his expression softening. โJoyce, is it delicious?โ
โVery yummy,โ Joyce replied.
Sienna shook her head, forgoing further questions. She knew his methods.
โBy the way,โ Josiah suddenly pointed at the window. โLast night, what were you doing standing by the window?โ
Sienna looked up sharply. He had been there. No explanation was needed; he knew. He noticed the window decorations and chuckled. โSo you were putting up window decorations, huh? They look nice. The New Year is coming. What are your plans?โ
Sienna, unsure of his meaning, glanced at Joyce. โNo particular plans, just staying with Joyce.โ They always spent the holidays together. This year, with Tara, whose daughter was abroad, theyโd have more company.
โUncle,โ Joyce tugged at Josiahโs sleeve. โYou should come stay with Joyce for the family reunion.โ
Sienna frowned, shaking her head. โYou canโt say that. He has to go home for family reunions.โ
Joyce nodded, pouting.
Josiah said, โHow can I bear to see my daughter sad? Besides, I prefer being with you two on such days.โ He added, โHow about this, Joyce? Iโll come later that day. If youโre awake, we can stay up late and set off fireworks.โ
Sienna opened her mouth to refuse, but Joyce clapped her hands. โOkay, okay! You have to keep your promise!โ
โOf course,โ Josiah patted Joyceโs head. โI promise.โ
โCross my heart!โ Joyce said, extending her little finger.
Josiah hooked his finger with hers. Sienna sighed softly. Let them be. More love for Joyce was always good.
After breakfast, Josiah didnโt go straight to the company, but to the Flynn residence to see Howard. The residence bustled with New Year preparations. Miranda was scolding Howard.
โYou donโt know anything! Yvette should be coming back soon, she usually handles this, and itโs wearing me out!โ
Howard replied, โI donโt know.โ
Miranda was speechless. Seeing Josiah, she became even more annoyed. โYouโre even less reliable! Can you bring Sienna back?โ
Josiah shrugged. โI canโt.โ
Miranda fumed. โGet out! You two give me a headache.โ She picked up Bobby. โAt least Bobby is adorable! Letโs go see Linda.โ
The two left, leaving the brothers alone. Howard frowned. โWhat are you doing here? Donโt bother me with company matters.โ
Josiah, amused and exasperated, said, โDonโt worry, Iโm not here to bother you. Someone was following me.โ He showed Howard the photo. Howard recognized the person as from the Evans family. He immediately called Hervey, who identified the man as likely working for money, making his employer and intentions unclear.
Howard decided, โFor now, let Hervey follow you.โ
Josiah laughed. โNo need.โ
Howard was displeased. โThere are only two of us left in the Flynn family. We canโt afford more accidents. Do you want to end up like me, unconscious for three to five years?โ
โThatโs not what I meant,โ Josiah explained. โSince we canโt determine their intentions, itโs better to observe. I have Zach, Chester, James, and Hervey. Theyโll be more cautious.โ
Howard agreed. It was better to discover their intentions than live in constant fear.
โAlright,โ Howard nodded. โBe careful.โ
โDonโt worry, I value my life,โ Josiah laughed. Howard chuckled, noticing the absence of Josiahโs usual gloom.
After Josiah left, Howard checked his WhatsApp. Yvette hadn't replied to his message from two days prior: โ[The New Year is approaching. Itโs time to come home.]โ
A little after seven, Josiah drove towards Sunshine Neighborhood, texting Sienna: โ[Be there soon, just bringing some New Yearโs goods, nothing else.]โ
Zach, in the front seat, warned, โSir, someone is following us.โ
Josiah glanced in the rearview mirror, his eyes narrowing slightly. โTheyโre following closely.โ
