Chapter 313

โ€œItโ€™s like this,โ€ the security guard explained. โ€œWe noticed someone acting suspiciously, loitering near the Bentley for a while. We apprehended him and wanted to ask if you recognize him. If not, should we call the police?โ€

Tara, unsure what to do, turned to Josiah, who had already approached. โ€œMr. Flynn, what do you think?โ€ she asked.

โ€œIโ€™ll handle it,โ€ Josiah said.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Tara replied.

Josiah addressed the guards. โ€œCould you show me a photo of the person?โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ one guard produced his phone, displaying a picture. โ€œHere he is. Do you recognize him?โ€

Josiah examined the unfamiliar face, then photographed it with his own phone. Returning the phone, he said, โ€œThank you for your trouble. I donโ€™t recognize him; let him go.โ€

โ€œLet him go?โ€ the guard asked, surprised.

โ€œYes,โ€ Josiah nodded. The guardsโ€™ inquiry indicated the car was unharmed; otherwise, they would have gone straight to the police.

โ€œWell, alright then,โ€ the guards said, puzzled but accepting the car ownerโ€™s decision. โ€œSorry to bother you,โ€ one added.

โ€œTake your time,โ€ Josiah replied.

After dismissing the guards, Josiah returned to the dining table. Sienna, having overheard, felt uneasy about his nonchalant attitude. โ€œJust let him go? No need to call the police? Not long ago, you were injured by someone with a machete.โ€

โ€œCalling the police would be useless,โ€ Josiah said with a smirk. โ€œHe hasnโ€™t done anything, and even in the station, he wouldnโ€™t say a word.โ€

Sienna, seeing his calm demeanor, asked, โ€œArenโ€™t you worried?โ€

Josiah paused, then nodded. โ€œWorried, yes, but worrying wonโ€™t help. Life goes on.โ€ He looked down at Joyce, her face smeared with oil, his expression softening. โ€œJoyce, is it delicious?โ€

โ€œVery yummy,โ€ Joyce replied.

Sienna shook her head, forgoing further questions. She knew his methods.

โ€œBy the way,โ€ Josiah suddenly pointed at the window. โ€œLast night, what were you doing standing by the window?โ€

Sienna looked up sharply. He had been there. No explanation was needed; he knew. He noticed the window decorations and chuckled. โ€œSo you were putting up window decorations, huh? They look nice. The New Year is coming. What are your plans?โ€

Sienna, unsure of his meaning, glanced at Joyce. โ€œNo particular plans, just staying with Joyce.โ€ They always spent the holidays together. This year, with Tara, whose daughter was abroad, theyโ€™d have more company.

โ€œUncle,โ€ Joyce tugged at Josiahโ€™s sleeve. โ€œYou should come stay with Joyce for the family reunion.โ€

Sienna frowned, shaking her head. โ€œYou canโ€™t say that. He has to go home for family reunions.โ€

Joyce nodded, pouting.

Josiah said, โ€œHow can I bear to see my daughter sad? Besides, I prefer being with you two on such days.โ€ He added, โ€œHow about this, Joyce? Iโ€™ll come later that day. If youโ€™re awake, we can stay up late and set off fireworks.โ€

Sienna opened her mouth to refuse, but Joyce clapped her hands. โ€œOkay, okay! You have to keep your promise!โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Josiah patted Joyceโ€™s head. โ€œI promise.โ€

โ€œCross my heart!โ€ Joyce said, extending her little finger.

Josiah hooked his finger with hers. Sienna sighed softly. Let them be. More love for Joyce was always good.

After breakfast, Josiah didnโ€™t go straight to the company, but to the Flynn residence to see Howard. The residence bustled with New Year preparations. Miranda was scolding Howard.

โ€œYou donโ€™t know anything! Yvette should be coming back soon, she usually handles this, and itโ€™s wearing me out!โ€

Howard replied, โ€œI donโ€™t know.โ€

Miranda was speechless. Seeing Josiah, she became even more annoyed. โ€œYouโ€™re even less reliable! Can you bring Sienna back?โ€

Josiah shrugged. โ€œI canโ€™t.โ€

Miranda fumed. โ€œGet out! You two give me a headache.โ€ She picked up Bobby. โ€œAt least Bobby is adorable! Letโ€™s go see Linda.โ€

The two left, leaving the brothers alone. Howard frowned. โ€œWhat are you doing here? Donโ€™t bother me with company matters.โ€

Josiah, amused and exasperated, said, โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Iโ€™m not here to bother you. Someone was following me.โ€ He showed Howard the photo. Howard recognized the person as from the Evans family. He immediately called Hervey, who identified the man as likely working for money, making his employer and intentions unclear.

Howard decided, โ€œFor now, let Hervey follow you.โ€

Josiah laughed. โ€œNo need.โ€

Howard was displeased. โ€œThere are only two of us left in the Flynn family. We canโ€™t afford more accidents. Do you want to end up like me, unconscious for three to five years?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what I meant,โ€ Josiah explained. โ€œSince we canโ€™t determine their intentions, itโ€™s better to observe. I have Zach, Chester, James, and Hervey. Theyโ€™ll be more cautious.โ€

Howard agreed. It was better to discover their intentions than live in constant fear.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Howard nodded. โ€œBe careful.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, I value my life,โ€ Josiah laughed. Howard chuckled, noticing the absence of Josiahโ€™s usual gloom.

After Josiah left, Howard checked his WhatsApp. Yvette hadn't replied to his message from two days prior: โ€œ[The New Year is approaching. Itโ€™s time to come home.]โ€

A little after seven, Josiah drove towards Sunshine Neighborhood, texting Sienna: โ€œ[Be there soon, just bringing some New Yearโ€™s goods, nothing else.]โ€

Zach, in the front seat, warned, โ€œSir, someone is following us.โ€

Josiah glanced in the rearview mirror, his eyes narrowing slightly. โ€œTheyโ€™re following closely.โ€
