Chapter 306

The next afternoon, Josiah collected Sienna to visit a traditional medicine doctor. The doctor examined Sienna thoroughly, using traditional methods. He sighed, commenting, โ€œAfter childbirth, your body has been quite drained.โ€ Looking at Josiah, he added, โ€œItโ€™s not right. A man from the Flynn family should be able to take good care of his wife, shouldn't he?โ€

Josiah's eyelids drooped, his lips tightening. He remained speechless.

The doctor continued, โ€œThe wealthy have their own troubles. Why would a good girl marry into such a family?โ€ Sienna silently agreed, reaffirming her lack of desire to re-enter that world.

The doctor prescribed medicine, saying, โ€œFortunately, youโ€™re young and healthy. With proper care, youโ€™ll recover. Letโ€™s start with two doses. Come for acupuncture twice a week. Iโ€™ll prepare the medicine for you.โ€

Josiah thanked the doctor and left with Sienna. At the entrance to Sunshine Neighborhood, Sienna instructed Josiah to park by the roadside. He complied, glancing at his watchโ€”a little after 3:00 PM. Knowing Joyce would be at the park, he asked, โ€œAre you going to see Joyce?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Sienna replied, opening the car door and exiting without hesitation.

Josiah watched her go, thinking, What should I do? Can things continue like this? Iโ€™m Joyceโ€™s father, yet even seeing my daughter feels like a luxury. He longed to see and hold Joyce, to have a family, acknowledging his own shortcomings. He wasn't a good man, and he didn't care to be.

At the park, Joyce and her friends played until the sky darkened. Sienna scooped Joyce into her arms, saying, โ€œLetโ€™s go home, sweetie. Taraโ€™s prepared a delicious meal.โ€

The mention of food instantly brightened Joyceโ€™s mood. โ€œYummy food!โ€ she exclaimed.

Suddenly, Sienna heard, โ€œJoyce.โ€ Looking up, she saw Josiah approaching with a smile.

โ€œMr. Flynn!โ€ Joyce squealed, wriggling in Siennaโ€™s arms. โ€œMommy! Itโ€™s Mr. Flynn!โ€

Sienna frowned, wondering, Why is he here? What does he want?

Josiah quickly reached them. Joyce reached for him, saying, โ€œMr. Flynn, pick me up.โ€ Sienna, though hesitant, released her.

Josiahโ€™s face lit up as he lifted Joyce. Sheโ€™s incredibly adorable, he mused.

Joyce tried to introduce Josiah to Sienna, but her young age hindered clear explanation. Josiah interjected, โ€œNo rush. Let me handle this.โ€ Noticing Siennaโ€™s displeasure, he cautiously greeted her, โ€œHello, lady.โ€

Sienna offered a mocking smile, thinking, Whatโ€™s his game? Is this because I wonโ€™t let him see Joyce? Thankfully, he doesnโ€™t tell Joyce sheโ€™s his daughter!

Playing along for Joyceโ€™s sake, Sienna replied, โ€œHello, Iโ€™m Sienna.โ€ Then, turning to Joyce, she added, โ€œLetโ€™s go. Itโ€™s dinner time.โ€

Later, Joyce clung to Josiah, refusing to let go. He asked, โ€œAre you hungry?โ€

Joyce nodded, saying, โ€œI missed you.โ€

โ€œI missed you too,โ€ Josiah replied, his heart softening. โ€œHow about I take you for some delicious food?โ€

Joyce nodded excitedly, then turned to Sienna, asking, โ€œMom, is that okay?โ€

Sienna frowned, refusing. โ€œJoyce, Taraโ€™s already prepared dinner.โ€

Joyceโ€™s face fell. Josiah, seeing her distress, pleaded, โ€œSienna, itโ€™s just a meal. I havenโ€™t seen Joyce in a long time.โ€

Joyce looked at Sienna with pleading eyes. โ€œMommy, please?โ€

Seeing their pleas, Sienna relented. โ€œAlright.โ€

Joyce cheered, โ€œHooray! Letโ€™s go! Letโ€™s eat something yummy!โ€

Josiah pinched Joyceโ€™s nose. โ€œWhat yummy food do you want?โ€

โ€œCake! Blueberry cake!โ€

โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll buy it,โ€ Josiah said, inwardly thinking, Joyce, Iโ€™m not Mr. Flynn, Iโ€™m your Dad.

Because of Joyceโ€™s cake request, they went to Tasty Bites. Joyce eagerly awaited her cake, calling out, โ€œMr. Flynn.โ€

Josiah gave an okay sign. Sienna, however, intervened, โ€œNo way. Dinner first. No cake before dinner.โ€

Joyce pouted, looking hopefully at Josiah, but he deferred to Sienna. โ€œYour momโ€™s right. Listen to Mom.โ€

Joyce thought, Mr. Flynn isnโ€™t impressive at all. Mom is the best!

Sienna served Joyce dinner. โ€œEat up. Finish this, or no cake.โ€

Joyce began eating. Josiah helped Sienna with her food. Then, Siennaโ€™s phone rang repeatedly. Annoyed, she went outside to answer. Her voice was cold and hard. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

Larry, on the other end, said, โ€œSienna, Connerโ€™s been discharged. I thought the family could celebrate with a meal.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s great, but why should I care about your family matters?โ€ Sienna retorted.

Larryโ€™s tone grew serious. โ€œSienna, youโ€™re part of the family too. I want you to come.โ€

Sienna fiercely interrupted, โ€œIf youโ€™re sick, get treatment. Donโ€™t act crazy around me!โ€

She hung up, immediately blocking Larryโ€™s number. Anger flushed her face, making her hands tremble and her breathing quicken. She stood outside to compose herself before returning inside.

The waiter brought the cake. Joyceโ€™s eyes sparkled. Josiah, amused, fed her cake while Sienna was absent.

Sienna entered and witnessed this. Her face darkened, her eyes narrowed. Joyce called out, โ€œMommy!โ€ Josiah said, โ€œSiennaโ€ฆโ€
