Chapter 294

"Achoo!" Josiah sneezed, rubbing his nose after stepping off the plane. Zach quickly offered him his coat. "Mr. Flynn, be careful not to catch a cold."

Josiah accepted the coat and left the airport. He'd been scheduled to be out of the country for two weeks but returned after only ten days. It was daytime in Jeixerity.

Zach asked, "Mr. Flynn, should we go back to the office, or...?"

Josiah looked at the weary faces of his team. "Everyone should go home to rest."

"Thank you, Mr. Flynn."

"Take care, Mr. Flynn."

The group dispersed, and Josiah got into his car, heading toward Silver Beach. Leaning back, he felt utterly exhausted. His last sudden return to Jeixerity had been because of Sienna. She had blindsided him, stabbing him deeply. The pain had been unbearable. To escape it, he'd thrown himself into his work, fueled by adrenaline. The work had finished ahead of schedule, but he felt no better. Whispering her name, he felt numb from his heart to his tongue.

The doorbell rang while Romilly hung clothes on the balcony. "Coming!"

Rushing to the door, Romilly expected Josiah. Instead, she saw Miranda. Zaid followed closely behind, carrying bags.

Miranda entered, asking, "Where's Sienna?"

Looking around and not seeing Sienna, she chuckled. "Is Sienna still asleep? Pregnant women enjoy their sleep. Let her rest." Then, she asked Romilly, "Is she still only drinking soup? I made some delicious soup for her and brought it here." Zaid was carrying the soup.

"Miranda," Romilly stammered, unsure.

Miranda smiled warmly. "I'll check on Sienna. I'll be quiet so I won't wake her."

Romilly, in a cold sweat, blocked Miranda's path. "Sienna isn't here. She's working for the television station and working afternoons these days!"

Miranda was surprised. "How is that possible? Isn't Sienna working..."

"Well," Romilly replied honestly, "Sienna hasn't been here for several days."

A frown creased Miranda's brow. "What do you mean?"

Romilly shook her head. "I don't know. I got a message from Mr. Flynn saying I no longer needed to live in; I can go back to working by the hour like beforeโ€ฆ"

"Is that so!" Miranda felt a knot of unease in her stomach. Unable to get more information from Romilly, she turned to leave.

As Miranda stepped outside, she pulled out her phone to call Sienna. Just then, Josiah's car arrived. "Just in time," Miranda murmured, putting away her phone.

The car stopped, and Josiah emerged. "Grandma, what brings you here?"

Miranda scoffed. "If I hadn't come, I'd still be in the dark about the trouble!"

Josiah's brow furrowed. He guessed, "You went inside?"

"Yes!" Miranda squinted, studying him. "Tell me! What happened between you and Sienna?"

Chapter 291

Josiah's brow furrowed, remaining silent, his expression heavy. Miranda grew anxious. "Did you two argue? Did you upset Sienna? She's pregnant; you should just spoil her!"

Josiah forced a smile, silently thinking he would love to, but she never gave him the chance.

"Why won't you say anything?" Miranda was frantic, but Josiah remained quiet. "You won't talk? Fine, I'll go find Sienna!"

"Grandma," Josiah grabbed her arm. "Don't go!"

"Then say something!"

"Grandmaโ€ฆ" Josiah felt completely helpless. He hadn't expected her arrival so soon.

Closing his eyes briefly, he finally said, "Sienna and Iโ€ฆ we broke up."

Miranda asked in disbelief, "What do you mean? Sienna is pregnantโ€ฆ how could you break up?"

"The childโ€ฆ" A bitter feeling surged within Josiah at the mention of the child.

"What about the child?"

Josiah looked away, unable to meet Miranda's eyes. "Theโ€ฆ child is goneโ€ฆ"

"What?" Miranda's eyes widened. "What do you mean the child is gone? Huh?"

Josiah was speechless. He couldn't tell his grandmother that Sienna had had an abortion.

"Speak!" Miranda was losing her composure. This was serious for the Flynn family.

"It couldn't be saved," Josiah said, regaining his composure. "In the first three months of pregnancy, things are unstable; anything can happenโ€ฆ"

Miranda, as a woman, understood this. But she found it hard to accept. "The child is gone?" Feeling faint, she swayed.

"Grandma!" Josiah gasped, supporting her. "Grandma, are you okay?"

"Mr. Flynn, get her pills!" Zaid quickly retrieved first aid medication from the car, providing two pills.

Josiah lifted her into his arms. "Let's get to the hospital!"

Upon receiving the news, Sienna rushed to the hospital. Miranda, eyes clouded, held Sienna's hand. "Sienna, you have suffered."

"Grandmaโ€ฆ" Sienna was bewildered.

"I know everything," Miranda looked at her belly. "It's Josiah's fault for not taking care of you and for not being able to protect the child."

Sienna was taken aback. She wondered how Josiah had explained things to make Miranda jump to that conclusion.

Outside the ward, Josiah called Howard. "Nothing serious, just an emotional outburst. I'll explain later. Alrightโ€ฆ" He hung up and turned to enter the ward. Sienna emerged, and they collided.

Josiah instinctively steadied her. Their eyes met briefly before they looked away. "Thank you," Sienna pulled back, slightly embarrassed. "Grandma is fine, so I'll be leaving now."

Josiah nodded. He wanted to drive her home, but knew she wouldn't agree. Sienna thought about how he'd defended her to Miranda. She'd hesitated to speak, but ultimately said nothing. As she left, Josiah's gaze lingered on her hair.
