Chapter 592

โ€œHahaโ€ฆโ€ A sinister laugh echoed in response to my question. I knew that laugh. It was Bruno. But why the hell was Jace with him? Could Hernanโ€™s claim about the mastermind actually mean Jace was involved? Iโ€™d suspected it before, but now it hit me like a punch. Anger flared, and I demanded coldly, โ€œWhereโ€™s Jace? Put him on the phone.โ€

โ€œTsk tsk, so fierce. Just like when you play snooker,โ€ Bruno taunted.

I didnโ€™t have the time or patience for games. โ€œBruno, what do you want?โ€

โ€œI told you already, didnโ€™t I? Just wanted to play snooker. By the way, your game today was impressive. Very nice,โ€ he sneered.

I should have appreciated the compliment, but coming from him, it made my stomach churn.

โ€œIf you want to play, fine. Just put Jace on the phone,โ€ I snapped, my voice sharp. I needed to tell Jace his cheap tricks werenโ€™t going to work anymore. Even if they had him, I wasnโ€™t going back to him.

โ€œWhy bother with the phone? Come see him yourself. Iโ€™m sure heโ€™d love to see you,โ€ Bruno said, dragging out the pause. Then, he added, โ€œRight, Mr. Johnston?โ€

โ€œRea, donโ€™t come here. Donโ€™t worry about me. Call Hayden, get out of the country. Now,โ€ Jaceโ€™s voice came through, sounding distant and urgent.

I froze. He wasnโ€™t in on this with Bruno. Bruno had him captive.

Before I could process it, Bruno spoke again, his tone shifting from mockery to something darker. โ€œIf you want to see Jace, come to the address Iโ€™m sending you. Donโ€™t, and Iโ€™ll make sure he takes a little trip to heaven, where he can confess his sins to Jesus for all the ways heโ€™s wronged you.โ€

โ€œRea, donโ€™t listen to him. Donโ€™tโ€“โ€ Jaceโ€™s voice was suddenly cut off by loud, sickening blows, followed by his pained grunts.

So Iโ€™d been wrong. Jace wasnโ€™t the mastermind Hernan had hinted at. Maybe there wasnโ€™t any mastermind at allโ€”just a story Herman had spun to mislead me.

โ€œBruno, tell them to stop! Iโ€™m coming over now!โ€ I shouted into the phone.

โ€œGood. Iโ€™ll be waiting for you, beautiful,โ€ Bruno said, then hung up. The sounds of fighting stopped.

As the call ended, my strength drained away, and my hand dropped limply to my side. A message notification buzzed on my phone. It was a location pin.

I stared at it, dazed, but I didnโ€™t go right away. Instead, I dialed Hayden. Jace had told me not to come. If I went, Iโ€™d just be another hostage. But I wasnโ€™t about to rush blindly into Brunoโ€™s trap.

Chapter 502

The call rang endlessly, and my frustration grew. Then I realized I didnโ€™t need Hayden specificallyโ€”I could call Steve. Just as I was about to hang up, Hayden picked up.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ he asked, already knowing it was bad.

โ€œJaceโ€™s been kidnapped by Bruno. He wants me to go to him, and he sent me a location,โ€ I explained, forcing my voice to stay calm.

โ€œSend me the location. Do not go there. Stay put,โ€ Hayden ordered.

A lump formed in my throat. I couldnโ€™t shake the sound of Jace being beaten, and I was scared that if Hayden confronted Bruno, it could make things worse; Bruno might be hurting Jace already.

โ€œHayden, weโ€™re all set. Everythingโ€™s handled here,โ€ Yaraโ€™s voice interrupted, clear and confident like she was right beside him.

The words Iโ€™d been about to say stuck in my throat, and I went silent.

Haydenโ€™s voice came back. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ll get him out.โ€
