Chapter 401

Yuna nodded. โ€œYeah, Iโ€™m feeling so much better now, like Iโ€™m actually healthy. I just want to live a normal life and catch up on everything Iโ€™ve missed.โ€

Hearing that from her was seriously heartwarming.

โ€œGood, Iโ€™m all for it,โ€ I said, then added cautiously, โ€œBut are you sure you can understand all this? We could always get you a tutor if you need help.โ€

โ€œI can!โ€ Yuna grinned, practically glowing. โ€œKeira, I swear, I feel like Iโ€™ve gotten smarter since the heart transplant. I understand everything just by looking at it.โ€

I froze for a second, caught off guard. Yuna placed her hand over her chest, her expression thoughtful. โ€œDo you think the person who had this heart was a genius?โ€

โ€œWhat? No, come on,โ€ I laughed, trying to steer her away from that thought. โ€œBeing smart comes from the brain, not the heart.โ€

Truthfully, Iโ€™d felt something strange earlier too, but I didnโ€™t want Yuna dwelling on it. The last thing she needed was unnecessary worries.

โ€œYouโ€™ve always been smart. Haydenโ€™s said it himself,โ€ I added, correcting her with a smile.

Yuna chuckled softly. โ€œIโ€™m serious though. I want to apply to college. I want to experience campus life.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s amazing!โ€ I said, flipping through the books she was reading. They were filled with notes, clearly second-hand.

Curious, I asked, โ€œWho got you these books? Hayden?โ€

โ€œNo, a friend,โ€ Yuna answered, her eyes shifting away.

Something seemed off. I smiled, gently probing. โ€œOh? You made a friend in the hospital? And one whoโ€™s a good influence, too. Impressive.โ€

โ€œWell, not exactly a friend,โ€ Yuna mumbled, looking a little embarrassed.

I pretended not to get it. โ€œYouโ€™re confusing me.โ€

โ€œIt was a family member of a patient in another room. He got lost while reading and wandered into my room. It gave me quite a scareโ€”I thought he was some kind of intruder. Turns out heโ€™s studying for his PhDโ€ฆโ€

As soon as Yuna finished explaining, I got the gist. Just a random encounter. Nothing alarming.

Still, my instincts told me to stay cautious.

I tried a different angle. โ€œHe sounds like someone worth knowing.โ€

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t mind meeting such a positive, hardworking scholar myself.โ€

โ€œWhich room is his family in? We should at least thank him for all these booksโ€”maybe take him out to lunch or something.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t ask,โ€ Yuna quickly replied. โ€œI already thanked him. Lunch would be over the top; letโ€™s not.โ€

She hadnโ€™t even asked which room he was inโ€ฆ I couldnโ€™t push it much further.

I picked up one of the books, flipping through again. The handwriting in the notes was neat, almost graceful. If handwriting reflected character, he probably wasnโ€™t the type to cause trouble.

Setting the book down, I remembered I still hadnโ€™t reached Hayden. I decided to feel things out. โ€œHas Hayden called you?โ€

โ€œNope,โ€ Yuna said, wrinkling her nose. โ€œSo, what did you bring me to eat?โ€

Hayden hadnโ€™t called Yuna either? A spike of worry hit, but I brushed it aside for now.

โ€œI brought baked pears,โ€ I said, keeping my tone light.

โ€œBaked pears?โ€ Yuna echoed, clearly unfamiliar with the dish.

โ€œTheyโ€™re delicious,โ€ I replied as I unwrapped the baked pears Gavin had given me and placed them in front of her.

Yuna licked her lips, intrigued, and picked up a spoon, taking a sip of the pear juice. โ€œWow, this is so sweet.โ€

โ€œEat up, itโ€™s good for your throat,โ€ I said, watching her absentmindedly.

โ€œKeira?โ€ Yuna waved her hand in front of my face.

โ€œHmm?โ€

โ€œAre you sure you and Hayden didnโ€™t have a fight? Youโ€™ve been totally out of it,โ€ Yuna asked, ever perceptive.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t fight, stop overโ€”โ€ I didnโ€™t even get to finish before there was a knock at the door.

Yuna had barely said โ€œCome inโ€ when the door swung open.

The moment I saw who walked in, I froze.
