Listen to this chapter:

Zachary moved so quickly that Giselle couldn’t react in time at all. Her mind went blank for a moment. Even Eastin suddenly started barking, realizing she was kissing someone other than Donovan.

When Zachary leaned in for another kiss, Giselle managed to push him away.

“I’m sorry,” he said, leaning back against his seat. He was panting heavily, and his heart was racing. He felt deeply conflicted.

Zachary had been in many relationships before, but in every one of them, the women had always been the ones trying to please him.

He was used to having any woman he wanted. He never imagined he’d be the one trying so hard to please someone else. After all, he was rich, handsome, and charming, and yet he was always cautious when it came to Giselle.

But Giselle didn’t react strongly. She wasn’t flustered, angry, or panicked. She simply sat there quietly, showing no signs of frustration. She knew perfectly well why Zachary had invited her out today.

Over the past few years, countless men had been interested in her, and she had played along, enjoying their company for her own reasons.

She treated some of them like best friends and had fun with them. With others, she kept them around as backup because of their status or wealth. Sometimes she saw them as personal banks – like Donovan.

But she had never seriously considered dating any of them. And now, there was something she wanted from Zachary too, but it wasn’t money.

“I’m sorry for offending you, Giselle.” After apologizing, Zachary looked at her deeply again. “I wanted to give you the car as a token of my feelings… and ask you to be my girlfriend. I really like you. Will you be with me?”

After a brief silence, Giselle replied awkwardly, “Zach, I don’t think we’re compatible.”

“Why?” he asked emotionally. Then, sounding almost childlike, he added, “Tell me what I’m lacking. Just be honest with me… so I can have some peace of mind!” At that, Giselle finally looked up and met his gaze.

Zachary was a 26-year-old wealthy man. He looked pure and dashing, like the main character of a high school drama. His eyes were bright and sincere, and he stood six feet tall, with a naturally impressive build.

Unlike other wealthy young men who only brought disgrace to their families, Zachary was smart, diligent, and committed to taking over the Kane family business. He was well-educated, respectful, and never bullied the weak – a rare example of a true gentleman among the rich.

Giselle knew the Kanes placed great hopes on him. Donovan, too, was a crucial figure in that family.

Taking a slow breath, she said seriously, “You’re a good man, Zachary. But I have my reasons. Most importantly, your uncle dislikes me, and he’s going to marry my sister soon. If we start dating, this whole situation will become…complicated.”

Zachary couldn’t accept that. “So my uncle is the reason you’re rejecting me?”

“Yeah,” she said casually. “Why don’t we ask him directly? If he agrees to our relationship and doesn’t try to stop us, then I’ll say yes.”

Hearing that, Zachary was confident it wouldn’t be a problem. “Fine. Let’s go see him now. If he’s okay with it, my parents will come around too. Let’s go!”

“Alright.”

As Zachary drove, he called the steward at Donovan’s house and learned that Donovan was home, resting, with nothing else planned for the day.

Half an hour later, they arrived at Donovan’s private villa. Since Zachary was his nephew, he could enter freely. His car’s license plate was registered, so the gates opened automatically, like it was his own home.

After parking, Zachary casually draped his arm over Giselle’s shoulders, playing the role of her boyfriend. Like that, they headed toward the villa’s living room.

Before they even reached the door, Giselle spotted Donovan standing by the window, tall and straight, talking on the phone. When he heard the sound of their approach, he turned. His expression froze the moment he saw them.

“Hey, Uncle Don,” Zachary greeted brightly as he approached, still holding Giselle close. Without hesitation, he added, “I’m officially dating Ms. Holt now. We came to tell you personally. I hope you can stop disliking her from today onward.”

Donovan’s face darkened as his cold gaze settled on them. Anger flickered in his eyes.

Giselle intentionally leaned her head on Zachary’s shoulder and smiled sweetly at Donovan. “Mr. Kane, you’ll give us your blessings, won’t you?”
