Chapter 43

“Usually, Uncle Don would make time to attend the Kane family dinner. But he probably won’t be able to this time. He’s been working in Swestan for a while now. So, don’t worry about it. Just come to my place,” said Zachary.

When Giselle heard that Donovan wouldn’t be there, she actually felt a little disappointed.

Seeing her hesitation, Zachary continued to persuade her, “Oh, Giselle, please help me this once. My grandmother has loved this cat for years, and I’m sure she’ll be overjoyed if you can help her.”

The moment he mentioned Dorothea, something sparked in Giselle’s mind, and her eyes lit up.

“Alright,” she said, stopping her hesitation and agreeing at once. “I’ll visit the Kanes with you. But you must ask your grandmother about the cat’s symptoms first. That way, I can bring all the necessary medicine and equipment.”

After Zachary made another call home, Giselle got into his Lamborghini. They first headed to her clinic to pick up some equipment before driving to the Kane residence.

HILANDI

Half an hour later, they arrived at a wealthy suburban neighborhood and stopped in front of an impressive manor. The grand gates slowly opened, and Zachary parked the car in the front yard.

The steward hurried over, respectfully opening the car door and greeting Zachary as he welcomed him home.

After Zachary got out, he walked to the passenger side and personally opened the door for Giselle. Then he spread his arms and exclaimed, “We’re here! Welcome to the Kane manor!”

It was Giselle’s first time visiting the Kane manor and seeing security this tight. The entire estate was as grand as a palace, and the atmosphere couldn’t have felt more timed...

Though Giselle had always prided herself on her composure, she couldn’t help but feel a little overwhelmed. The Kanes were truly an extraordinary family; everything they owned exuded luxury and elegance. Compared to them, the Holts seemed insignificant.

Still, Giselle kept her expression calm as she followed Zachary into the living room.

Currently, she appeared poised, unaffected by her surroundings, as if she had been here dozens of times. It was as if nothing could shake her.

When they entered the living room, several members of the Kane family were seated and chatting casually. The moment they saw Zachary arrive with a beautiful young woman, all eyes turned to Giselle.

“Grandma, Dad, Mom—let me introduce someone,” Zachary said with a grin, slipping his hand warmly onto Giselle’s shoulder. “This is my friend, Giselle Holt. She’s here for a visit today.”

Ethan Kane and his wife, Grace Chambers, exchanged puzzled glances. They couldn’t help scanning Giselle from head to toe. Meanwhile, Dorothea...

At that, Ethan Kane and his wife, Grace Chambers, each adjusted their glasses to get a better look.

After all, no matter how playful Zachary was outside the house, he had never brought anyone home before. They couldn’t help but wonder what made Giselle special enough for him to break that rule.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Kane,” Giselle greeted politely, turning first to Ethan and Grace. But when it came time to greet Dorothea, she hesitated, unsure of how to address her.

Dorothea was Zachary’s grandmother and Donovan’s mother. By age, Dorothea could easily have been Giselle’s grandmother, too. But remembering that intimate, awkward encounter with Donovan, Giselle felt it wasn’t right to treat Dorothea like an elder she could call “Grandma."

Taking a steady breath, Giselle smiled calmly. “Hello, Mrs. Kane Senior.”

“Giselle Holt,” Dorothea said, giving her a sharp, assessing look. Her tone turned cold. “So, you’re a Holt as well."

Zachary quickly stepped in with a deceitful explanation. “I forgot to mention—Ms. Holt is actually Dr. Tony Holt’s daughter. So, she’s technically Uncle Don’s half-sister. But that’s not important right now.

“What matters is that she’s an exceptional vet. There’s no animal illness she can’t cure. And she’s here today to help with Grandma’s…”
