Chapter 21

And all Donovan could do was watch. He couldn’t help but close his eyes, his anger gradually snuffed out. Once again, he let himself go, spiraling into that wild, chaotic passion with Giselle. Tension thickened the air in his luxurious office, charged with raw desire. His phone rang a few times, and someone even knocked on the door—but he ignored it all.

As an extreme sports enthusiast who’d spent over a decade living abroad, Giselle had always been bold and uninhibited when it came to sex. She was passionate and daring, willing to try anything for pleasure.

Over an hour later, the heated frenzy in Donovan’s office came to a close. He leaned back on the couch, lit a cigarette as usual, and quietly exhaled. His face gave little away, but he definitely looked more content. Meanwhile, Giselle felt as if she’d been run over by a truck. Her mind kept circling back to their intimacy, and her throat was parched. She grabbed his mug and took a few sips of water.

Just as she climbed back beside him and was about to speak, he tossed his phone at her. “Transfer any amount you want to your account. Once it hits your account, get out,” he said.

To Donovan, what happened was nothing more than a transaction. He assumed she’d seduced her way into his office only to ask for money. But this time, Giselle had other plans.

She scoffed and tossed the phone back. “Mr. Kane, I’m not interested in your money anymore,” she replied airily. “I want more—”

“What do you want?”

“You.”

Donovan’s expression soured immediately. “What do you mean?” he rasped.

She lifted one leg and straddled him again. Her eyes locked onto his with an irresistible glint as she declared, “I plan to go after you—and I mean it.”

Her candor caught him off guard. For a moment, her presence felt more commanding than his own. Snapping back to his senses, Donovan shoved her off his lap.

“Don’t think just because I’m willing to sleep with you, you can keep pushing your luck,” he growled, taking the last few drags of his cigarette before stubbing it out.

He couldn’t even be bothered to spare her another glance. But Giselle had anticipated this. Perfectly composed, she lounged on the couch and sneered.

“Donovan, you never should have messed with me without knowing what kind of person I am,” she drawled. “Now that you want to cut ties with me, I’m afraid it’s not going to be that easy. Anyway, just think of me as a lunatic. I’m the kind of woman who won’t stop until she gets what she wants. Even I’m scared of myself when I go crazy. See you around.”

With that, she felt she’d accomplished her goal. She rose, grabbed her phone and bag, and headed for the door.

But Donovan didn’t take her seriously. Still, the way she could go from being all over him to walking away left him oddly stifled. It was as if she had control over his emotions. As Giselle reached the door, she suddenly spun around and tossed out one last line.

“Oh, right. You and Anne are holding your engagement party next week, aren’t you? I suggest canceling it. That day’s bound to be unlucky.”
