Chapter 59
As Rosalie entered, she immediately saw Anya sitting in a private room with her husband, Kaleb. In both this life and the last, Rosalie felt a pang of envy whenever she saw Anya. Anya had always been well-protected—first by her brother, Julian, and now by her devoted husband, Kaleb. With such strong protectors, Anya lived life exactly as she pleased, without a worry.
Rosalie, on the other hand, possessed everything that appeared enviable to the outside world. She was the Talley heiress and the mistress of the Galloway family. To everyone else, her status was unassailable. But she alone knew the truth—the past year of marriage had drained and suffocated her, leaving her feeling as though she were merely existing.
The thought darkened her eyes. “Rosalie, you’re here. Come on over,” Anya’s cheerful voice broke through her reverie.
Rosalie snapped back to reality, forcing a smile as she approached. “Anya, Kaleb…”
Although Rosalie and Julian were preparing for divorce, she maintained her usual warmth toward Anya and Kaleb. They were, after all, her best friends. “Come on. The moment I heard Scan mention your divorce from that jerk Julian, I was so excited to celebrate!” Anya poured Rosalie a drink. “What finally made you divorce that douchebag?”
As Julian’s older sister, Anya couldn’t tolerate his treatment of Rosalie. She mused, Julian never loved Rosalie. Why did he marry her only to treat her as an afterthought, demanding she cater to him like a saint? What a joke! As the older sister, Anya couldn't bear to see her spoiled brother act so foolishly. She had tried to reason with him repeatedly, but Julian never listened; her words fell on deaf ears. He never took her advice seriously.
