Chapter 44
Rosalie remained indifferent, idly brushing her messy bangs from her forehead. With a faint smirk, she said, “You don’t actually think my father would make a scene with me over a maid like you, do you?” Her words sent a chill down the maid’s spine, draining the color from her face.
The maid thought anxiously, ‘Mrs. Galloway already pushed Ms. Graham to the point of illness, and even then, Mr. Graham couldn’t do anything. If she really kicked me out, why would he stand up for me?’ “There’s no way he’d argue with her over someone like me. I worked so hard for this job; I can’t lose it.” Her eyes reddened with panic, and she stammered, “I’m sorry, Mrs. Galloway. I didn’t mean to offend you.” Rosalie glanced at her briefly but didn’t pursue the matter. Instead, she resumed eating, unconcerned with the judgmental stares around her.
She didn’t even spare Julian a glance. No one knew that, beneath her calm exterior, her heart was breaking. She had learned that Helena was Edward’s illegitimate daughter. That was her father—the man who had showered her with love. Yet, she discovered he had spent over a decade lying to her, colluding with his mistress.
Rosalie understood that, in Edward’s heart, Helena and Riley Graham were probably his real children. She was nothing more than a living reminder of his shame—proof he had survived on the Talley family’s wealth. Everyone saw Rosalie as sharp-tongued and cruel, but no one realized the pain buried beneath her ruthless exterior.
