Chapter 143

Rosalie claimed to be filial, but her actions belied her words. I didn't expect her to make a disgusted face and look at Edward. “Dad, your taste is really bad,” she said, adding, “that you’d marry such a greedy and pushy woman.”

Edward and Claudia were stunned.

“Enough,” Phyllis, who had been silently observing with a stern face, finally interjected.

Having witnessed this family's disgusting behavior many times, Rosalie didn't expect any kindness from Phyllis. Sure enough, when Rosalie looked at Phyllis, she approached and, leveraging her seniority, said condescendingly, “Alright, Rosalie, your mother didn't mean to take your room for Helena. You know Helena isn't well. Your room has good lighting and is on the second floor, which is beneficial for her recovery. Just consider her motherly intentions and don't hold it against her.”

Afraid Rosalie would argue, Phyllis didn't give her a chance to speak, continuing, “I know you’re not someone who would quibble over trifles. We rarely have the whole family together for dinner. Don't let this small matter spoil the harmony.”

Phyllis's words sounded pleasant, but they were clearly intended to pressure Rosalie. If Rosalie persisted, she would be seen as petty and stingy. If she acquiesced, she would be playing into their hands, allowing them to seize her room.

Everyone was focused on Rosalie and didn't notice Julian's increasingly serious expression. It was clear the family was ganging up on her. Had she been less strong-willed, she would have been bullied out of her home.

Looking at Rosalie's cold profile, Julian felt a pang of sympathy. She was clearly in the right, yet seeing her like this caused him pain.
