Chapter 896:
Elyse didnโt fully grasp Brookโs meaning, so she calmly asked, โWhere am I supposed to go? Is Jayden planning to come after you?โ
โNo,โ Brook replied awkwardly. โYou have to leave with Charlieโs friend. Heโs here for you.โ
Taken aback, Elyse smiled bitterly. โOf course. I knew you wouldnโt let me stay for nothing. You had a plan. Now I understand.โ
Brook winced at her words. This wasnโt how heโd envisioned things. He wanted to protect her, but circumstances had spiraled out of control.
Elyse stood, feigning indifference. โI have no luggage. Should I leave now?โ
Brook nodded stiffly. โHeโs waiting downstairs.โ Elyse brushed past him and left the room.
As she walked away, Brook sighed, regret filling him. Everything had gone wrong. He couldnโt understand how word of Elyseโs stay got out.
Elyse entered the living room and saw a man seated on the sofa. One glance at Rory told her he was dangerous. Though he smiled, his eyes were cold and calculating.
Rory scanned her before Brook came down the stairs. โIs this Ms. Elyse Lloyd?โ Rory asked.
Brook nodded. โYes.โ
Rory nodded curtly and stood. โThanks, Brook. Weโll share a meal later.โ Brook forced a smile.
Elyse remained silent, showing no fear as Rory led her out. She followed him to the car, calm and composed.
Roryโs curiosity piqued. โWhy arenโt you afraid? Donโt you know what kind of place the Hudsonsโ residence is?โ
โOf course,โ Elyse replied steadily.
Rory laughed, disdain lacing his amusement. โThen why arenโt you scared?โ
โItโs pretense,โ she answered. Sheโd known this day would come and prepared herself.
Sheโd accepted her fate, or at least appeared to. She wouldnโt give anyone the satisfaction of seeing her break.
Rory chuckled cruelly. To him, Elyse was disposable. No mental preparation would change her impending suffering.
After an hourโs drive, they arrived at a grand manor.
