Chapter 340:

Elyse, though relieved to find Morgan unharmed, remained worried. Gently touching Morgan's forehead, she detected no fever. "Perhaps we should call a doctor," she suggested, concern etched in her voice.

Morgan, rising slowly and steadying herself, replied, "No need. It's an old injury from a fall, and I've been unwell since. I'm feeling better now. Let's go. I want cake."

Elyse reluctantly agreed, guiding Morgan to the refreshments. Suddenly, Tracy exclaimed, "Oh my! Your sister's been arrested! What's happening? This is shocking!"

Elyse, nearly knocked from her chair, asked, "Is this true?"

"Yes," Tracy confirmed, thrusting her phone forward. "The police issued a statement; numerous drug-related charges." Then, suspiciously, she added, "Have you or your parents noticed anything unusual lately?"

Elyse carefully read the statement. "I'm not sure," she replied, handing the phone back. Her mind raced. How long had Mabel been in custody? Jayden's cryptic words flickered in her memory, sparking suspicion of his involvement.

Though worried about Mabel, Elyse also feared for Jayden. Would his involvement endanger him with the Owens? Could Lanny and Glenda harm him? Taylor's presence in the study prevented Elyse from immediately going to Jayden, despite her concern.

Tracy suddenly asked, "Do your parents know Mabel's been arrested?"

Elyse shook her head. "I don't know."

At the police station, Mabel, in a detention uniform, was a mixture of fury and bitterness. Tracing her fingers along her bed frame, she trembled. "Why am I arrested? I'm from the Lloyd family, Jayden Owen's sister! Aren't you afraid of him?"

For over an hour, Mabel's cries filled the station. Finally, the policeman snapped, "How could Mr. Owen have a relative like you? Don't flatter yourself."

Mabel's face paled. "I'm Jayden Owen's sister-in-law! His wife is my older sister! Release me!"

Dismissing her claims as delusional, the policeman left. Mabel panicked, clutching the bars. "Don't leave me! I'll call my sister!"

Her pleas went unanswered. She retreated to her bed, nervously biting her nails. Confused, memories flooded back: falling asleep in the basement, waking to Glenda and Lanny. Glenda had embraced her, weeping, while Lanny's red eyes showed his distress.

Mabel felt disoriented, unsure if it was a dream. She had confided in Glenda, begging her parents for revenge. Exhausted, she'd fallen asleep, only to be arrested. Fear gripped her. She bit her nails until they broke, whispering, "Mom, help me. I want to go home."

Meanwhile, in the hallway, Glenda wept. "Lanny, Mabel's your daughter! Save her!"

Lanny paced. "You coddled her too much. Saving her now is impossible."

Glenda wiped her tears. "Ask Elyse. Her husband is powerful. He can help."

Lanny smiled bitterly. "Beg Jayden? He orchestrated this in secret! He sent her back so the police would arrest her. He's keeping his hands clean."

Glenda gasped. "Jayden? Impossible!"
