Chapter 309: Novel Drama
Elyse, despite her doubts, followed Jayden's advice and left the house after thirty minutes. In the hospital parking lot, she unexpectedly encountered Jayden exiting his car. Surprised, she blurted out, "Why are you so punctual?"
Jayden, emerging from his wheelchair-accessible vehicle, replied, "I arrived three minutes before you."
Feeling embarrassed, Elyse limped toward him. Seeing her struggle, Jayden called out, "Tobin!"
Tobin appeared, carrying a foldable wheelchair. He set it up and offered it to Elyse, saying respectfully, "Please, Mrs. Owen, have a seat."
Elyse responded, "It's just scraped knees. It's not as if I broke my legs."
Jayden scoffed. "What's the difference? You can't walk properly. If you don't want the wheelchair, I can get you crutches."
After glaring at Jayden, Elyse awkwardly sat in the wheelchair. When she pressed the control button, the wheelchair lurched forward toward Jayden. Tobin, standing behind her, quickly pulled it back, preventing a collision. The abrupt stop jolted Elyse. Startled but unharmed, she exclaimed, "Is this wheelchair really this difficult to handle?"
Jayden gave her a disdainful look and instructed Tobin, "Keep her away from the controls. You push the wheelchair."
"Yes, sir," Tobin agreed.
Embarrassed, Elyse composed herself, smoothed her hair, and urged Tobin to hurry. They proceeded to the elevator and headed for the operating room.
Glenda and Lanny waited nervously outside the operating room, anxiously awaiting news. Upon Elyse and Jayden's arrival, they rose, fear and worry etched on their faces.
Still puzzled by Mabel's actions, Elyse asked, "Why did Mabel jump off the building?"
Glenda's eyes welled up. Although she felt like scolding Elyse, Jayden's presence restrained her. Lanny stepped in, explaining, "Mabel felt so guilty about what she did that she couldn't face you and acted impulsively."
Elyse produced her phone, displaying a message. "Is her apology just her way of blaming me for ruining her career?" she asked. She had received a message from Mabel eight minutes before Jayden's call.
With a stern look, Elyse said sarcastically, "Is this how Mabel acknowledges her mistake?"
Lanny was speechless, stunned. He hadn't known about Mabel's message. Elyse's dismissive wave silenced him. For Lanny and Glenda, Mabel's well-being was paramount, overshadowing Elyse's predicament.
Elyse, long aware of their bias, stated impatiently, "No need to explain. I understand. She ruined her own career and couldn't handle the consequences."
With a hint of sarcasm, she added, "She rose to fame using my works. Now that her stardom is fading, it's poetic justice, wouldn't you say?"
Tears streamed down Glenda's face. "Elyse, it's my fault. I played favorites with Mabel. I won't do it again, I promise. Please don't ban her from show business. She truly dreams of being a star."
Lanny quickly covered Glenda's mouth. Jayden, leaning on his hand, looked playfully at Glenda. "Oh, are you unhappy with my orders and suggesting I retract them?"
Lanny quickly interjected, reassuringly, "No, that's not what she meant. She respects your decision." He vowed sincerely, "I promise Mabel will give up on the entertainment industry. She needs to let go of that dream for Fluen's peace."
Jayden's expression remained unreadable. Mabel had stolen Elyse's original work, catapulting herself to success. Without those songs, she would never have achieved her fame. Jayden's actions were about restoring what rightfully belonged to Elyse.
