Chapter 1397

He quickened his movements, grumbling, โ€œItโ€™s not important! Keep your eyes on me!โ€

Tracy laughed, her voice light despite the flush on her cheeks. โ€œIโ€™m just looking out for you. What if you miss something important?โ€

Lowell silenced her with a kiss, his hands framing her face as he pulled her closer. His voice softened, rich with intensity. โ€œThe most important thing right now is you. Weโ€™re having such a good time, and you still want me to answer the phone? I thought you didnโ€™t want me to stop. Arenโ€™t you afraid I might have to leave?โ€

Feigning a pout, Tracy replied, โ€œWell, since Iโ€™m just your secret lover, I guess Iโ€™d have to accept it if you did.โ€ Her tone was mockingly pitiful, though the glint in her eyes betrayed her playful intent.

Lowellโ€™s jaw tightened; her words ignited a fire within him. โ€œDonโ€™t say that,โ€ he growled. โ€œIf you donโ€™t want to be left behind, behaveโ€”and let me have my way. I donโ€™t care about the call, and neither should you.โ€

Before Tracy could respond, Lowell moved more forcefully, eliciting a soft groan from her. The phone continued to ring insistently in the background, until finally, it fell silent.

Unbeknownst to Lowell, the call was from the hospital. By the time he checked, nearly two hours had passed. Now, he sat on the couch, Tracy curled against him, her energy depleted. The air between them was warm and languid, their breaths slow and contented.

Tracy noticed Lowell staring at his phone, his expression unreadable. Her voice, soft and slightly hoarse, broke the silence. โ€œWho was it?โ€

โ€œThe hospital,โ€ he replied calmly, though his tone held a hint of tension.

Tracy frowned, annoyance flickering across her face. โ€œWhy would the hospital be calling you so late?โ€

Lowell didnโ€™t respond immediately. Instead, he grabbed a nearby shirt and gently draped it over her shoulders. Then, without a word, he tapped his phone screen.

The line connected almost instantly. โ€œMr. Ruiz, your sister has woken up,โ€ said a voice.

Lowell froze, disbelief washing over him. โ€œReally? Thatโ€™s wonderful news.โ€ The call ended quickly. He turned to Tracy. โ€œI need to leave for a while. Iโ€™ll take you back to my place first.โ€
