Chapter 1323

Elyseโ€™s brows furrowed as she studied Jayden. โ€œWhoโ€™s going to die?โ€

โ€œNo oneโ€™s dying,โ€ Jayden said with a dismissive shrug. โ€œSheโ€™s just being dramatic.โ€

โ€œJayden Owen!โ€ Debora erupted, her voice trembling with fury. โ€œHow can you be so heartless? The family faces a crisis, and you, a family member, should shoulder your responsibility!โ€

Elyse set her handbag on the sofa, curiosity piqued. โ€œA family as prestigious as yoursโ€ฆ in trouble? That doesnโ€™t make sense.โ€

Deboraโ€™s eyes flashed with indignation. โ€œYouโ€™re not part of the family. Stop meddling where you donโ€™t belong! You have no right to judge us.โ€

Elyse merely rolled her eyes and settled onto the sofa.

Jayden crossed his arms, his smile holding a touch of mockery. โ€œYou come to my house seeking help, yet here you are, throwing your weight around.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not,โ€ Debora protested, her lips quivering.

Jaydenโ€™s gaze shifted toward Elyse, his expression one of quiet admiration. โ€œDebora, you claim Elyse has no right to judge? Funny. Sheโ€™s probably the most qualified person in this room to do so.โ€

The ice in Jaydenโ€™s stare dissolved Deboraโ€™s arrogance like morning frost under the sun. Her mind raced as she reminded herself to maintain composure. The family desperately needed Jaydenโ€™s interventionโ€”the matter of Elyseโ€™s alleged crime would have to wait.

Swallowing her pride, Debora bowed her head. โ€œJayden, the family is in dire straits. Please, letโ€™s put aside our differences and help us.โ€

Jayden settled beside Elyse, his voice steady. โ€œWhy do they send you alone to persuade me? If your parents need assistance, they should show the proper respect.โ€

โ€œAs an Owen, isnโ€™t it your duty to help during hardships?โ€ Deboraโ€™s voice rose incredulously. โ€œWhat gives you the right to demand my parents come begging?โ€

Jayden found her naivety almost amusing. In his eyes, the Owens were merely opportunists chasing their own interests. Kason Owen , Deboraโ€™s father, too proud to ask for help himself, had sent his daughter instead. Success would benefit him; failure would fall on Deboraโ€™s shoulders. Yet she remained blind to this manipulation, believing she fought for family honor.

Jaydenโ€™s voice cut through her delusions.
