Chapter 1174:
Louise seemed about to speak, hesitated, then her eyes filled with sadness. โI know. Thatโs why I should focus on Edward. Marrying him would be the sensible choice.โ
Observing Louiseโs peculiar expression, Elyse asked nonchalantly, โDid something happen between you and Garret?โ
โNo. Absolutely not,โ Louise replied sharply.
Elyse was taken aback by such a strong denial. The intensity of Louiseโs reaction only deepened her suspicions. Noticing Louiseโs reluctance to discuss it further, Elyse chose not to push the issue.
Seeing Louiseโs gloomy look, Elyse suggested, โWould you like to sleep in my room tonight?โ
Louise wrapped her arms around herself and replied cautiously, โWhat are you implying? Iโm a princess. Donโt assume you can take care of me.โ
A smirk crossed Elyseโs face. โIโm only interested in men.โ
โEven so, I prefer to sleep by myself,โ Louise said, throwing her apple core away. โIโm actually going to stop talking now.โ
Elyse responded, โAlright. Have a good rest then.โ
Louise yawned and replied, โYou too. Iโll talk to Garret about arranging a meeting with Jayden, so you donโt miss him too much.โ
After Louise departed, Elyse leaned on the kitchen counter, exhaling deeply. Once she felt settled and began heading upstairs, she encountered Garret.
Garret extended a phone toward Elyse, saying, โThe idiotโs calling. Answer it, or heโll keep bothering me tonight.โ Elyse wasnโt sure who Garret referred to. She looked at the phone and saw Edwardโs name displayed.
Feeling slightly uncomfortable, she met Garretโs gaze. โLetting you use my phone,โ he said, โjust make it quick.โ Garret then walked away.
Elyse took the phone, went back downstairs, and took the call.
As Elyse picked up, Edwardโs angry voice boomed from the other end, โElyse, you are quite courageous, arenโt you? How could you possibly venture to a location that is so dangerous?โ
Elyse laughed nervously. โI wasnโt alone. I found someone to help me.โ
Edwardโs tone softened. โWho helped you?โ
โUhโฆ Iโm not telling you,โ Elyse replied, unwilling to reveal Louiseโs involvement.
โHa! You wonโt tell me? Garret already did. The nerve of Louise!โ Edward was enraged. โThese two women are both troublemakers.โ
โWhy ask me since you know already?โ Elyse retorted, clearly annoyed.
โI wanted to check if you would be honest with me,โ Edward explained. โIt surprises me that Louise, who once disliked you, would assist you now. Have you two made a secret agreement?โ
โIf you keep this up, Iโll end the call,โ Elyse said.
โIโm sending someone to bring you back, and youโre going to follow their instructions,โ Edward commanded. . . .
